Knowledge Base How to configure the Spotlight Settings of the Tapo cameras
Many Tapo outdoor cameras, such as the C320WS, C325WB, and C425, etc., and doorbell cameras, such as Tapo D130, D230, etc., are equipped with spotlight, and the illuminated spotlight allow the cameras to capture footage in vivid color.
This article will guide you through various ways to set up and utilize the spotlight on your Tapo cameras.
Case 1. Manual Spotlight Control
You can manually turn the spotlight on/off directly from the camera's Live View page on the Tapo app, and it allows you to briefly illuminate the monitoring area for a few minutes. On the camera's Device Settings > Spotlight Settings page, you can adjust the spotlight brightness and On/Off duration.
Case 2. Set the Spotlight as the camera alarm.
You can set the Alarm Type to Light or Sound & Light on the camera's Device Settings > Alarm page, and then the spotlight will flash several times when an event is detected, serving as a visual alarm.

Case 3. The Tapo camera turns on Spotlight automatically for colorful night vision
Typically, if your camera has spotlight, you can go to the camera’s Device Settings > Video & Display > Night Mode Settings page to select a desired mode to turn on/off the spotlight when camera works in the Night mode.
1. The spotlight turns on when the camera works in Night mode to provide a colorful image.
2. The options on the Night Mode Settings page may vary for different Tapo cameras. The following images show several different Night Mode Settings pages.
Note: We recommend reading the description of each mode on the Night Mode Settings page before selecting the mode you want.
For example:
- Spotlights Off/Infrared Mode: The spotlight remains off while the camera operates in Night mode, producing black-and-white images.
- Full-Color Mode: The spotlight activates when the camera is in Night mode, resulting in colorful images.
- Smart Mode: The spotlight automatically turns on temporarily when the camera detects events, providing colorful images.
- Doorbell Mode: The spotlight lights up when someone rings the doorbell camera, offering temporary colorful images.
- Schedule Mode: The spotlight turns on as scheduled for full-color imaging.
Note: The selected mode on the Night Mode Settings page works only when the camera switches to Night mode. If the camera works in Day mode, the mode won’t take effect.
