All Tapo Cameras

Description of the Phenomenon:

When the Tapo camera works in Night mode, the live feed may give the illusion that it's snowing or raining, even if there's no rain or snow in the actual environment.

Below are some threads that include videos or pictures illustrating the phenomenon provided by our users.
1. White Dots
2. Snow Effect in Night Mode

Causes of the Phenomenon:

This phenomenon is often caused by high humidity levels or a lot of dust in the air. For example, in foggy weather, the camera's infrared lights activate when it operates in Night mode, and if the humidity is high, water droplets in the air can scatter the infrared light, making the live feed look like it's raining or snowing.

Improvement suggestions:

    1. If the camera has spotlights, you can go to the Tapo app > Camera's Device Settings > Video & Display > Night Mode Settings page to select the Full-Color mode. With Full-Color mode, the spotlights will turn on when the camera works in the Night mode, and its infrared lights will turn off.

    2. If the camera does not have spotlights but there is a light next to it, you can try to turn on the light at night, and set the Video Mode on the camera's Live View page to Day Mode, then the camera will capture colorful image and turns off the infrared lights.

    3. Consider moving the camera to an area with lower humidity or less dust. This adjustment can help achieve clearer images and reduce the impact of atmospheric conditions on camera functionality.
