Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Tapo C460(EU)_V1_1.1.7 Build 250619

Hi,

I just want to report a potential new bug which has been introduced in the lastest firmware for these C460 cameras (V1).

I have two of these cameras and they both record fine, they are both set to only use "daylight" mode so never use the IR at night (theres plenty of light where they look so IR isnt needed).

So I have two Cameras both have been working fine. They've record fine and you can/could play back the recordings without a problem.

But one of them is on the previous firmware Tapo C460(EU)_V1_1.1.6 Build 250430 and that works great, but recently the other camera was offered the latest firmware Tapo C460(EU)_V1_1.1.7 Build 250619 so I upgraded it.

Now in the release notes for the firmware Tapo C460(EU)_V1_1.1.7 Build 250619 it mentions this:

"1. Fixed the issue that there is a flash of white light at the beginning of the recordings in infrared night mode."

So for me thats not relevant as I don't use IR mode so ive never see this problem. My cameras have always only been in "Day" mode even at night and playback has always been good.

BUT now on that one camera with the latest firmware whenever I play back a recorded clip there is flicker at the start and it goes RED for a split second, then it goes back to normal.

So it seems this "fix" for the IR has actually caused this red "flash" or flicker at the start of the standard (none IR) clips.

It wasnt there before and my other camera with the old Tapo C460(EU)_V1_1.1.6 Build 250430 doesnt have this issue and its only been introduced since the latest firmware upgrade.

Im guessing this upgraded firmware caused this.

Please relay this to your Devs so they can fix it in the next firmware.

For refererence both camera are using and SD card (not storing to a hub) and neither have 24/7 switched on. They are both simply using standard motion detection as they always have.

Many thanks

  @Apex4K

Please download the clips, watch them in the app and through phone's gallery, check if the same situation occurs. Do you see this flicker red in every video?

Is it possible to factory reset this camera (and format the sd card)? Test  if it remains the same after a reconfiguration.

If the same thing still occurs, enable the diagnostics mode on the camera, reproduce the problem and export a log for further analysis. How to get the log of Tapo Camera

  @Wayne-TP

Hi and sorry for the delay in replying (been quiet busy recently).

After a bit of investigation I noticed that this "red" flicker was present in previous firmwares too. So it's not just specific to the newest firmware as stated.

I also know that both my C460 cameras do it too so it's not just one camera that maybe had an isolated issue.

I have both my cameras set to always be in "day"/colour mode.

During the day recordings are fine and when you view them back they just start playing without any flicker or artifacts other than the typical initial focusing and cloud which is while it's starting to record.

The "red" flicker is only when it's night time and dark.

Obviously as my cameras are set to colour mode there's no switching to IR mode but on some recordings they flicker and the image goes red.

It's obviously something to do with the camera starting the recording and getting itself sorted out and it's literally only a split second, but both cameras do it and it's only ever on recordings when it's dark or darkish

It's not something that's just been introduced so please ignore my initial assumption

But it's maybe something your Devs could iron out especially as you specifically mentioned the white flicker in night IR mode.

It's not a major annoyance but after reading your patch notes from the last FW update where you specifically mentioned that IR flicker it brought this to my attention

Anyway as mentioned it's not a big deal and thanks for the response 🙏🏻
