Any update on when the zone detection on TAPO cameras will be fixed? it clearly doesn't work. Another post here details exactly the same problem i'm having.

Hi,
If you encounter the phenomenon that the event outside the detection zone triggers the camera's detection feature, please refer to Case 6 in the following instructions to troubleshoot.
What should I do if my Tapo camera triggers false detection?

Please confirm the following information for further analysis if the same phenomenon persists.
  1. Please send us the screenshots of the camera's Device Settings > Detection page, detection zone page, and the enabled detection types pages.
  2. Please send us a video showing that the event outside the detection zone triggered the camera's detection feature. What kind of detection is triggered (such as person, vehicle, etc.)?
You can upload the video and screenshots to your cloud server (such as Google Drive), generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.

Best Regards

@Solla-topee Thank you. I will get the pictures sent.

However, why is this effecting the detection zone? Surely this should be sensitivity within the zone? The whole purpose of these zones is that it only focuses on that area, but if this effects outside the zone it makes it rather pointless.

  3. Adjust Sensitivity Settings: Sometimes lowering the detection sensitivity can help reduce reactions to movements that are near but outside your defined zone.

Thanks

Hi,
1. As you can see in this thread > Case 6, when something moves across the camera's field of view, the camera draws an invisible "box" around it to track its path, and usually this "box" is larger than the actual object. When the object stays outside your marked detection zone but near its boundary, the invisible "box" may touch or overlap with your detection zone, and the camera may trigger an alert. In this situation, lowering the detection sensitivity may reduce such false detection.

2. Thank you for the screenshot and videos provided. In the video created on Dec 4, 17:17:47, it's normal to receive a motion detection notification. Although the vehicle was outside the detection zone, its headlights altered the light within the detection zone, triggering motion detection.

For the video created on Dec 1, please send us a screenshot of the camera's Playback page showing this video triggers person detection. If you have any other videos showing similar camera false detections, please provide them for further analysis.

I have escalated your case to our tech team, and they will contact you via email to assist you further. You can send the screenshot and video to our tech team via email later.

Best Regards

@Solla-topee ok thanks. I understand the response, but it kind of makes the detection zones rather pointless because it's not true to how they're being set. Us (the users) don't know what size this invisible box is when an object moves in front of the camera. Setting the detection zone smaller risks missing actual events which needs to be flagged. Also, lights shouldn't be affecting something when it's outside the zone and this should be fixed by a software update.

I will load a another her which has just happened.

Thanks

Hi,
1. If your camera has the detection tag feature, you can enable it to see the size of the 'invisible box'.
What's the Detection Tag feature of the Tapo camera and how can I use it?

2. The basic camera's detection mechanism is based on image changes between different frames. The frame is one of the many still images that compose the complete moving picture. If there is a difference between the frames, the camera will recognize it as a motion detected. In the video you provided, the car's headlights caused changes in the frames within the detection zone, thus triggering motion detection. I will forward your request to optimize this scenario to the relevant department for evaluation. You can also provide feedback to our tech team via email.

Best Regards
