Model: Tapo C560WS
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.8 Buid 260128 Rel.34173n

My camera Tapo C560WS has a problem with smooth recording when motion detection and object tracking - both are enabled. For example, it freezes for a second and skips frames, so it doesn't record that one-second period smoothly. Once tracking is turned off, everything works fine. Has anyone else had a similar issue? It seems like the camera’s processor can’t handle it. Has this problem been reported to customer service anywhere in the world, and is anyone working on a fix? Unfortunately, after I reported it, I didn’t even receive a response from customer service… Please help. The Wi-Fi, network card, power supply, etc., are all working fine.

UPTADE:

The problem doesn't just occur during recording only ! —recording has nothing to do with it—but when the patrol mode is set during live view, the frames also stutter—they seem to freeze. Is this a flaw in this model? Does this happen with other models too?

Hi,
Please refer to Case 3 in the following instructions to see if they help.
What should I do if I can't view the Tapo camera?

If the same phenomenon persists, please confirm the following information for further analysis.
  1. Is the Tapo C560WS connected to your router's Wi-Fi directly or to a Tapo hub?
  2. On the camera's Device Settings > Device Info page, please tap the Wi-Fi icon and check the RSSI value.
  3. Could you please send us a video showing the reported phenomenon? You can upload the video to your cloud server (such as Google Drive) or YouTube, generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.

Best Regards

Yes camera is connected directly to wifi router. Signal strength is -53 (RSSI) it is fine. Please check private message (Solla-topee).

In my opinion, the problem is related to the camera itself and only occurs when the camera is moving. For example, when tracking an object. Or during a patrol. Recording takes place on a card installed in the camera, so the connection to the router has nothing to do with it. Besides, the signal strength is excellent; the camera has been connected to two different routers on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. The problem always occurs when the camera is moving. Just to be safe, I also checked to see if the channels from nearby Wi-Fi networks overlap, but no, they do not overlap with my network. Interference is ruled out. As I mentioned, when object tracking is turned off, the video records smoothly without any glitches. Before buying the camera, I came across one or two reviews mentioning that the same thing happened—that is, the camera would freeze the image during movement and there was no smoothness. This may indicate a bug in the camera’s onboard software, but I’m not sure, hence my request and this post. It’s definitely related to the camera moving.

Hi,
In the Tapo app > camera's Device Settings > Advanced Settings > UPnP page, please enable this feature and check if it helps.
Are you streaming the camera with an Android phone or an iPhone?
Best Regards

Hi. When I enable the UPnP function, nothing changes. The video feed still freezes for a fraction of a second when object tracking is enabled. Streaming has nothing to do with it – in my opinion, the connection to the router itself (it really wouldn’t make any difference if it wasn’t there) is also irrelevant, because when I download the recorded footage from the memory card in the camera, it’s recorded exactly the same way on that card – locally in the camera (see the video I sent in a private message). Exactly as seen in the stream – with frozen frames. I use an iPhone and also have a preview on my MacBook. When the camera isn’t tracking (it doesn’t need to rotate) and has a steady view of the surroundings, everything is fine. When it rotates, it stutters.

Hi, I have just installed two of these cameras and I'm have the exact same problems with both of them, the video recording is fine, and live video until you pan, it moves then stops and says network unstable while rebooting. If action tracking is turned on the same thing happens, it crashes then skips forward so you miss what triggered it.

I have tapo indoor cameras they have no problems, pan tilt track never crash.

Thanks

Stu

This is all quite frustrating. A new firmware update is available — version 1.1.8 Build 260319 Rel.27875n — which was supposed to fix the issue, at least according to info from technical support. Let me know how things are going for you after you update. For me, the camera moves faster and seems more rugged; it doesn’t track smoothly but rather in jumps, and I think it changes the bitrate during movement because you can see pixelation as it follows the object—the image quality is worse. This isn’t a good solution; I still have the problem, though there are definitely fewer stutters and freezes, and the quality is worse during movement. This isn’t a good solution yet.

@Pavel-T yes, it's same low quality with c260 and c225v2 when tracking. It hasn't been fixed and probably won't be possible, due to shutter speed limitations. For sure it won't be fixed for c225v2, further optimization is not possible.

Check your FPS during a movement. For sure bitrate is going down when tracking plus for some camera models FPS is lower than one in settings. Record a clip and check fps with vlc app.

@SugarBaby You can tell from the clock in the video that frames are missing. In my opinion, that’s the manufacturer’s responsibility. They should have thoroughly tested the camera before releasing the model to the market. I’m getting more and more disappointed with the quality—it’s like buying a bike but only being able to ride straight without turning. Nonsense...
