Can you use a VPN service with Deco?
Can you use a VPN service with Deco?
Can you use a VPN service like Nord, IPVanish, etc. with the Deco M5? I installed Surfshark and it reduced my speed by 95%! I spent hours emailing back and forth with their customer support and could not get a speed higher than 8 or 9 Mbps. Without the VPN I get 110+.

As an update to anyone who finds this post, the ability to add VPN connections to a deco network is currently being rolled out to various deco models, starting with the deco x50. This now allows for OpenVPN, L2TP, and PPTP VPN connections.
The team has been introducing Wiregurad compatibility to our Archer Line of routers, so we may eventually see Wireguard compatibility brought to Deco.

The WAN can only be set up utilizing DHCP, Static IP, or PPPoE.
If you want to use a VPN connection, you will need to use the client software for the respective VPN service you subscribe to on your client device.
VPN does have overhead due to how the packets are encapsulated so a slowdown in the speed will happen.

I have the same problem. Using the surfshark client on my android phone my speed drops from 100Mb to under 10.
Before I started using the deco it would drop to around 60Mb, which was still usable.
There seems to be an issue with the VPN client routing through the deco. I'm using deco M4

Have you guys tried using the suggestions here from the VPN provider? https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012228480-Slow-speed-problems
What mode is the Deco running in? Router mode or AP Mode?
Is the Deco the main router or is it connecting through another router?

@sgtjjj You can use it now, at least with the latest software. You speed is going to be determined vastly by your VPN service provider, and how well they play with the L2TP protocol.
Ive been able to get proper speeds of 80-120mbps through my VPN on my Deco 1200.
PM if you have questions.

@SpearFyre I installed the IPVanish app on my Firesticks but not the Deco software. Yes, it cut my speed by 75%.

Hi, Deco does not support VPN server/client.
So Did you have an OpenVPN client in the LAN and the OpenVPN server is on the remote?
As for the speed, only the speed on the client has dropped to 10m/s or the speed of the whole Deco system?
If disconnecting the VPN connection, would the speed of the client be back to normal later?
Thank you very much.
