I have 'inherited' a WiFi/Ethernet set up that uses an existing Netgear router on one side of the house, that is linked to a tp-link AV600 extender about 100 ft away. I have no problem plugging into the Ethernet using the extender, but am not able to set up a second computer to access wirelessly through the extender. I was under the impression that the signal from the router in my section of the house was being sent directly through the wiring in my house to the extender. Is it not possible to configure the extender so that I can use it for wireless activity, as well as ethernet activity?

Thanks for your input

  @BeltaneFires,

So unfortunate news, the AV600 is not actually a Range Extender, but is only a Powerline Connector, this means that it doesn't have a wireless signal being broadcast from the unit. You will have to look at other solutions for creating an extension of your wireless network. TP-Link does have Powerline Connectors that extend the wireless range that will be compatible with your existing system, so this may be the easiest option for you.

As a small piece of information regarding your current hardware, the maximum speed that can pass through the line is 600mbps, which will likely be less in reality. If this is enough bandwidth, then nothing is needed. However, your powerline connection will be slowed down to match the slowest powerline device on the network. As a result, it may be great opportunity to purchase a stronger and more reliable powerline network for your house.
