Model: Deco X60
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.0.13

Hello,

I have ATT fiber along with BGW320-505 as my gateway.   I am currently running the gateway in IP Passthrough mode with my X60 in Router mode.

It appears that many people disable all firewall settings within BGW320 and let their routers do all the work.

Is this safe to do so with X60?  My interface is relatively simple and wasn't sure if all necessary firewalls are working or do I need to still enable certain firewall settings within the gateway:

Initially I was running BGW as router and X60 as AP; however, I kept getting intermittent outage/reboot of the gateway (Flood limit) and decided to try the using BGW as a IP passthrough without any firewall enabled.

Thanks

  @yellowfever,

I quickly looked over at the ATT and forums regarding the flood limit, and it looks like this is actually potentially caused by the firewall that is set on your router. The deco nodes all have an SPI firewall enabled on the nodes. When in router mode, the Deco network will automatically use its own firewall systems in order to protect the network. As long as your devices are receiving their connection through the router, they will be protected. When in AP mode, many of these advanced features for monitoring and protection are disabled. After changing to router mode, I would recommend taking a look at your deco app to see the features that have now appeared for your network.

If I am not mistaken, it is possible to run more than one firewall on your network; however, it adds additional steps that could cause issues or delays with connections

Here is the Thread from the ATT community: ATT Forum Post - Flood Limits and Disconnects

Reading through it, a support member mentions that if a specific application cannot be attributed to the disconnect, then IP Passthrough mode is the best option.

  @Riley_S

Thank you for your reply.  I have been running IP pass through and Deco in Router mode for about 4 hours without any glitches so far.  Internet speed is about the same as before which is good.   Hoping my intermittent outage due to Flood Limit goes away with this setup as you had noted.   I was also getting Other DDOS attack warnings as well but so far I am not seeing any on the BGW log.

  @Riley_S

It's been a couple days and so far so good except potential double NAT issue I am facing with Deco and BGW (ATT gateway).  I've confirmed BGW is indeed in pass through mode but the Deco is still showing that it's using private IP address.  Running Tracert confirmed that I have two priviate IP addresses before Public IP.

Public IP doesn't show up on the Deco. How do I check WAN IP on Deco GUI?  Also, should Deco be set on "Dynamic IP" or "Static IP"?

All of my connected devices are using IP address from Deco which I think is a good sign since BGW isn't doing any sort of routing other than providing an IP to the main Deco.

Again, all works well with good speed but whether this is an issue or not.

Thanks

  @yellowfever I am a noob and have a very similar setup as you. Purchased x60 and have ATT BGW320.

I don't want to double NAT and read that iP passthrough mode is the way to go....but don't know really where to begin on how to implement the ATT BGW320 into IP passthrough mode (configuration step wise).

Can you point me to any documentation outt here you followed that has been successful so I can review ? Would really be grateful for the community support here. Thanks!!

After having some issues, I am now running Deco in Access Point mode with ATT gateway doing all the work.  I found this video to be very helpful:
