Model: Deco S4
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.6.2 Build 20240718 Rel.69205

I just got newly available ATT Fiber installed in place of my former DSL service and I'm trying to figure out the best way to set up my network because I'm only getting about 100mbs vs the 300mb from the ATT fiber.  I was told that I should disconnect my  AC1750 Archer C7 Router, disable  the wifi from the BGW320-500 and change the Deco S4R to an access point.  This would avoid double NAT issues (whatever that is).  I connected the main DECO unit to a LAN (Not the WAN) port on the BGW320-500 via an ethernet cable. I then added the other two DECO units to the network.  I've had the DECO units right at 3 years.

I have a ranch house with a basement.  The BGW320-500 is at one end of the basement.  The 3 DECO units are on the main floor.  The main one is in the middle of the house near the big TV where we use streaming.  The other two are near the opposite ends of the house.

I would appreciate any help you could give me cause my internet service inside the home isnot much better than when I had DSL.

Also, if I decided to upgrade from my current deco s4R, would you recommend the XE55 or the XE75 and why?  Could I still use my S4R units with these to extend my network?

Doug

  @Pitt75 If you are limited to around 100 Mbps, you might want to check the cable you are using.  Depending on the category of cable and the length of the cable you might be limited by the cable link speed.  At a minimum you will need Cat 5e or Cat 6.

  @alams154

Thanks for the tip.  However, all my house is run with CAT6 cable.  The ditance from the ATT BGW320-500 in one end of the basement to the main DECO on the first floor is probablbly 40 feet or so. So I don't think the cable is a problem.  I think I may be limited by the S4R so I think I'm going to spring for 3 XE75's to replace the S4R's.  After I get the network stabilzed and see what it can do, I may try to add the S4R's at the tail end of the network, using the XE75's as the main workers so the signal between the XE75's don't have to go through the slower S4R's.

It turned out that my wifi card and my ethernet card in my laptop were limited to 100mbs.  I upgraded to an intel ax210 wifi card and a TP-Link adaptor for the ethernet...problems solved.I'm now getting 350+mbs....more than I'm paying for.
