Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Firmware Version: 1.1.1 Build 20241115 rel.24012(5553)

I wanted to make this post here to help anyone else out with the BE550 Pro router. YMMV, of course, but this worked for me.

TLDR; If experiencing random reboots/instability with this router, disable MLO. It's been completely stable for me ever since.

I was frustrated with this router frequently dropping internet, causing all my SSIDs to drop for several minutes at a time. I had to either wait for it to recover on its own, or forcibly reboot the router to get it to recover.

This was completely unacceptable, especially while working from home. After many hours of troubleshooting, I discovered that MLO was the culprit of the problem.

My current theory is that the MLO software on this router is still buggy, as this variant of router hasn’t received a firmware update since December 2024.

PS. Not to mention, MLO is essentially without any real benefits right now for everyday client devices.

Recommended Solution: Disable MLO SSID entirely.

As of February 5th 2026, instability issues still persist in my experience with the latest firmware, 1.1.2 Build 20251022 rel.33842(5553) with MLO enabled (BE550 Pro V1.6).

Disabling MLO entirely fixed all random reboots and WiFi drops. I’ve not experienced a single issue with the router since.

In addition, there was no noticeable real world benefit for my client devices in my testing. Actually, I almost always observed both lower latency and better throughput with MLO off than with it enabled.

Hello @linkuser8282 ,

Welcome to our community.

Are the MLO SSID and the main network SSID the same? Is only the wireless device disconnecting? Which client devices are involved?

Please go to the firmware update page to check for new firmware.

We recommend sending an email to forumsupport.usa@tp-link.com  with the following information:

  @Joseph-TP

No, separate SSID for MLO, the main network, and an IoT network

All SSIDs would crash (disconnected all devices, no SSID broadcast visible) along with Ethernet connectivity until the router either recovered on its own or I would manually reboot it.

Client devices involved were an extremely typical mixture of WiFi 4-7 devices.

WiFi 7 devices were connected to the MLO SSID only and consisted of a few iPhone 16/17 Pros

along with a FastConnect 7800 PCIe WiFi card.

I am running version 1.1.1 of firmware, which is the latest for this device/HW version (December 2024 last firmware update in US).

This post was meant to be a PSA for anyone else with this router that may happen to experience the same issues as me. The router is working just dandy now with MLO disabled and I’m happy with that. I do not wish to hand over my logs at this time for review, especially as the router is stable now and any potential gains to be had with MLO in a router to client real world scenario are negligible.

  @linkuser8282  I'm running this newer version and build, and my WiFi just dropped today... poof.  This router is just a month old.  After trying a reboot twice, I finally had to factory reset and set up the whole thing again.  Should I send this back or just shut off the MLO?  This is a newer version and it's still an issue indicating it's not likely to ever be fixed.  I thought the MLO would be handy when I go out to the yard and my 5G fades, thought the phone could then pick up the 2.4 seamlessly.  I've never had a router just stop broadcasting like this before and all the networks disappear.

My post today:

Archer BE550 WiFi Stopped Broadcasting

Firmware Version: 1.2.5 Build 20251028 rel.38584

Today I was connected to the MLO WiFi network and all of a sudden all of the WiFi signals disappeared.  Tried rebooting but none of the WiFi networks would show up. I had to do a factory reset and completely set up the router again.

  @Richard3234

That’s ultimately your decision to return or not. I thought no MLO would be a deal breaker for me, but personally, even with MLO enabled (and when the router cooperated) I found basically zero real world benefit for my client devices.

For your usecase described below, I suggest to disable MLO and set the primary SSID 2.4/5g/6g network name the same so your phone will automatically switch.

Then put your slower devices, IoT devices, etc. on the respective IoT/Guest Networks as necessary.

At the end of the day, I figured why go through the hassle of exchanging/returning a router because of one feature, which in real world testing provided no noticeable benefit..

I’d be curious if disabling MLO also fixes your issue. If you try this, would you kindly report back your findings?

  @linkuser8282 I can't say I have this problem with firmware 1.1.2 Build 20251022 rel.33842(5553) or even the original firmware.

Yesterday

  @linkuser8282

Kindly check your easy mesh node is it all band support BE or not. TP Link had cut down some of their router 2.4GHz from WiFI 7 standard to Wifi 6 standard. It is one of the root cause of unstable on my router when enable 3 band if one of the router band is not fully support BE standard. For example, BE550 V1 2.4GHz is support until WiFi 6 version, but BE550 V2 is support until WiFi 7 standard. Kindly check your node router, and disable the band that is not support be standard. Which mean, you will only mix 5GHz+6GHz in MLO,  IF all node 5Ghz and 6Ghz is WiFi 7 standard and 2.4Ghz is WiFi 6 STANDARD.

  @Jasson_Hong Thanks for chiming in! Reading thru your issue, it doesn’t seem related to mine. It makes logical sense to me that MLO would cause instability in your case (mixing mesh AX with router BE standards on 2.4G MLO) as AFAIA, MLO is supposed to be a WiFi 7/BE feature only. However, I am not using any Easy Mesh mode at all, just the standalone router, and the Easy Mesh mode feature is disabled entirely in my configuration.

BE support in the 2.4G band is one of the main reasons why I picked up this specific router (along with the MLO support). I wanted full WiFi 7/BE support with all three bands along with MLO, and the BE550 Pro fit the bill, while the BE550 only does AX on 2.4G.

Unfortunately, MLO instability issues still persist on the latest firmware, 1.1.2 Build 20251022 rel.33842(5553) in my experience. I’ve kept it disabled entirely due to the instability and lack of any noticeable real world benefit for my client devices.

  @linkuser8282 @Jasson_Hong

   I agree @linkuser8282 .  I want the 2.4G included in the MLO configuration for the times I go out into the yard and lose my 5 or 6G. I appreciate your advice @Jasson_Hong  but it would really defeat my purposes to shut off the 2.4G.  Presently, I'm using the MLO on my phone only.  Now I use 6G on my laptop rather than MLO and I've been running error free with this setup for about 2 weeks now.  At the time of my crash, I was using both the phone and laptop on MLO. I had just run a speedtest on my laptop using MLO when the  BE550 stopped broadcasting completely, as I have described in my original post.  The only way I could access it was to do a factory reset, at which time it began broadcasting again and I did a complete setup again.  I escalated the issue to Support as I felt they needed to know about v2 behaving like v1 with respect to this MLO radio   I am to send them a syslog if it happens again.  Problem is, when it happens, there's no way into the router to get a syslog printout.  😏
