I am writing to report a persistent firmware bug on my Archer BE9700 v1.0 running firmware 1.1.1 Build 20260113 rel.13713(5553).
 
Setup:
  • Router: TP-Link Archer BE9700 v1.0, Firmware 1.1.1 Build 20260113 rel.13713(5553)
  • Modem: Arris S33v3 (DOCSIS 3.1, 2.5G ethernet port)
  • ISP: RCN Astound
  • Connection type: Dynamic IP via coaxial cable
Issue:
I am experiencing frequent, intermittent internet drops averaging every 30-60 minutes. The connection goes down for 1-2 minutes and restores on its own without any intervention. All devices (both wired and wireless) lose internet simultaneously during each drop.
 
What has been ruled out:
  • Two different modems (my personal Arris S33v3 and one provided by RCN) both experience the same drops, ruling out modem hardware
  • RCN has re-provisioned the modem multiple times and inspected and repaired external line equipment — issue persists
  • Router has been factory reset
  • Tried both the 10G and 2.5G WAN ports — issue persists on both
  • MLO is disabled
  • DHCP is correctly configured
  • Router is receiving a valid public IP from RCN
  • The drops predate any changes on my end and began shortly after the firmware updated to 1.1.1
Key evidence from router system log:
 
The system log shows the router switching between WAN0 and WAN1 interfaces around the time of drops:
2026-05-12 13:49:08 Led Controller INFO [2108] Start to run WAN1_ON
2026-05-12 13:49:08 Led Controller INFO [2108] Start to run WAN0_OFF
 
This WAN interface switching pattern has been reported as a widespread issue on other TP-Link routers and appears to correlate directly with the internet drops.
 
Additionally, users of the sibling BE900 V2 router have reported identical intermittent drop behavior after upgrading to firmware 1.1.1, suggesting this may be a firmware-wide issue across the BE router family.
 
I am requesting:
1. Confirmation of whether this is a known bug in firmware 1.1.1
2. A pre-release or beta firmware that addresses WAN stability and the WAN interface switching issue
3. Guidance on any settings changes that may stabilize the connection in the interim
 
I am happy to provide ping logs or any other diagnostic information your engineering team requires.
 
I'm desperate to find a fix to this. It's been maddening.  @Joseph-TP @Kevin-Hz

For a WAN connection unstable (Router Internet LED turns red/orange occasionally): 
    1) Connect a PC directly to your modem to verify if your ISP's Internet is stable.

    2) Ensure the Ethernet cable connecting your modem to the Router is properly connected, and replace old wires with new ones.
    3) Please change the DNS Server of the Router, log in to the web management interface of the Router, go to Advanced > Network > Internet > Advanced Settings, and change the two DNS Servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.  How to Change the DNS servers on the wireless router and DSL modem router (New UI)?

  @Joseph-TP Thanks for responding so quickly!

 

I changed those DNS settings yesterday afternoon on the advice of someone in the chat named Glenn. 

 

However, the drops continued; especially when I tried reconnecting devices to the wifi. They'd drop as soon as something like, the Apple TV or the Mac, would try to logon to the wifi. Then, after about 4-7 minutes, the wifi would be back up.

 

I'll email forumsupport with the latest updates, ping logs, and router system log.

Thank you for your feedback. I would like to confirm whether this anomaly started with firmware version 1.1.1? Have you downloaded other firmware versions before, and did this anomaly not occur with them?

  @Joseph-TP Unfortunately, I can't say 100% for sure; but I do feel that these issues started around the same time. I did ask my ISP if updating the firmware would have anything to do with the constant drops. All that to say, it seems like these issues are related.

Hi @Joseph-TP, I also seem to be experiencing similar drops with my BE9700 ever since 1.1.1, and it's been the worst today.  Nearly 6 times I've had to power cycle the router.  Anywhere around 1-3 hours, my devices lose internet despite showing still connected to the BE9700's WiFi bands.  When this happens though, the router looks perfectly fine.  All connection lights are white.  However, the BE9700 doesn't allow me to login to the admin console.  I would try to downgrade, but 1.1.1 says, "This version upgrade is irreversible and you cannot downgrade to the previous firmware after the upgrade."

 

I reported this multiple times thru the TP-Link support chat and while they suggested that I change DNS settings, that did absolutely nothing to help.  I saw you mention a beta firmware for BE9700.  I want to understand if I may be able to try the beta firmware as well to rule out whether this is in fact a firmware issue or hardware issue.  I feel like I'm at my wits end here, and it's quite disappointing to deal with frequent issues on a router that I've owned for less than 6 months.

I haven't had a minute to install the beta firmware. Before I do, if there are issues after the install, can I downgrade to the one I'm on now? 

 

Also, ever since I removed the USB the connection has been 100% stable. 

 

Do I still need to install the beta firmware or should I wait for a stable release?

 

Finally, some other folks have the same issue, should I post a link to the beta download in the forum?

Have you ever encountered a situation where your router randomly restarts after enabling SMB sharing?
