  @Gardz

Hi,
Thank you for your case report.
Are there any obstacles between the hub and the cameras? The cameras and the hub are connected by a wireless signal, and usually, the more obstacles between the camera and the hub, the greater the interference in the environment, and the weaker the signal received by the cameras.

In this case, can you send the photos of the placement of the camera and the hub, as well as the specific environment and obstacles between the camera and the hub, for further analysis? (You can send me the link to download the photos via private message.)

Best Regards

  @Gardz - whole set up is pretty useless.given the very ooor range of the hub. I tomassumed that it used my tp link mesh network - no more Tapo products for me.

  @Simonrash same here, I'd expect I could hook up my Hub via an ethernet cable & have the cameras connect to it via the DECO Mesh system

  @Solla-topee maybe some firmware updates that allow the cameras to be connected to the hub via a home network would be a good idea.

  @MeenaMos

Hi,
The Tapo battery camera, such as the Tapo C420, C400, and D230, will connect to the Tapo Hub H200 via sub-G signal to go to the internet, and the H200 can connect to the wireless router by an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.
While other Tapo camera models, such as Tapo C200, C310, etc., are connected to the router's Wi-Fi directly and don't need to connect to the hub H200. You can select different cameras as per your requirements.

If your camera connects to the H200 to go to the internet and the signal strength is bad, you can try to remove obstacles between them if possible, or move them closer to each other.

Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

Your comments always start off with, is there anything between the devices and the hub. Of course there will be. None of us bought a line of sight device nor do we live in the open air.

My cameras are outside my home and my home is made of concrete. Is your hub weather proof? No. So how am I to use an outside camera with an inside hub and not have any obstructions between them?

Your company has offered a less than adequate device and sold it as a convenience.

If I pull the ethernet cable from the hub and move it more central to both cameras will I loose internet capability? I assumed it had to be plugged into my router. If not, then I'll relocate it and see if I can squeeze more signal out of it.

I've generally been extremely happy with your company's products. Still love this cameras and hub system but not its performance.

  @EJBates  Hi, the Tapo H200 supports Wi-Fi connection, I found the setup instructions on its official website: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/3821/

  @Solla-topee Thanks for mentioning the differences between home wifi / Hub and your cameras - I hadn't appreciated the differences!
Repling so I can find this thread before buying...
