Model: Tapo C320WS
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.3.5

Hi,

I have a Tapo camera installed on my terrace connected to my ASUS router. I've noticed that it consistently shows very high Tx/Rx rates, even when not actively being viewed or accessed.

  • Tx Rate (Router → Camera): 95 Mbps

  • Rx Rate (Camera → Router): 58 Mbps

  • Status: Constant, even in idle

  • No app/NVR is actively streaming or recording from the camera at the time of measurement.

  • Router model: ASUS

  • Wi-Fi band: 2.4 GHz (separated SSID)

What I've tried:

Disabling Camera Account (even though it was not ussed), UPnP changed to OFF, disabled motion detecion, put camera in Privacy mode, Rebooting camera;
 None of them had any effect on the rates; After rebooting actually it jumped to 108Mbps Tx Rate

Is this behavior expected? It seems excessive for a camera that's supposed to be idle. Could it be a bug, a misreporting issue, or is something actively pulling data from the camera without my knowledge?

Any insight or troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
The Rx/Tx rate refers to the negotiated speed between the camera and the router, reflecting the physical connection speed between them rather than the camera's internet speed. Generally speaking, once a device successfully connects to the router's Wi-Fi, the negotiated speed remains constant even if the device is idle. A higher negotiated speed indicates a better connection status between the camera and the router, which in turn enhances the camera's responsiveness when managed through the Tapo app.
Best Regards
