  @Kevin_Z

Any plans to add VPN Client support to AX1500 / AX10 which is perhaps the most popular Wi-Fi 6 router for the masses ?

https://www.tp-link.com/in/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-ax1500/v1/

When support is added for AX1800 / AX20, i see no reason why the lower priced sibling will be left out. Requesting you to think about it as a lot of users have purchased this as their first AX router and do not want to go through the hassle of installing a custom firmware just to get the VPN Client feature.

Thanks !

Hi,

I am just wanting some confirmation before proceeding with a beta firmware upgrade. I currently have a AX11000 MU-MIMO Tri-Band Gaming Router which is running the firmware 1.2.3 Build 20210719 rel.14861(5553).

In your message you provided a link to the beta version.

Archer AX11000_V1.0_beta firmware - https://static.tp-link.com/upload/beta/2022/202205/20220518/ax11000v1-up-ver1-3-0-P1%5B20220517-rel55480%5D_nosign_2022-05-17_15.29.23.zip

My questions are: -

  1. Will this beta version provide openVPN client functionality allowing me to have my router be configured to connect direct to openVPN providers (ie
    Surfshark, NordVPN, Mullvad, Proton VPN, Express VPN, PrivateTunnel, PIA, etc)?
  2. Can you double check with me that the firmware link I provided which came from your message and my router/firmware I have provided is compatible?
  3. Can I upgrade directly from my current version to this beta version?

Thanks.

Kevin_Z: Yes, the beta firmware we provided in my original post adds the support for VPN Client feature, and you can install it on your router to connect to some popular VPN Servers.

  1. Can you double check with me that the firmware link I provided which came from your message and my router/firmware I have provided is compatible?

Kevin_Z: Yes, the beta firmware is compatible with your current firmware.

  1. Can I upgrade directly from my current version to this beta version?

Kevin_Z: Yes, you can install the beta firmware directly.

Thanks.

@Samfromindia Thank you for requesting the VPN Client feature. There was no definitive information if VPN Client would be possible or available for Archer AX1500/AX10 in the future, but we would forward your request to the decision team for consideration.

Hi Kevin_Z

Thanks for your prompt response. I have one further question in terms of vpn functionality. Can your router connect to an openvpn server for connectivity whilst still act as a vpn server itself for external clients to connect to?

Thanks

With Regards,

Matthew Anderson

@muss3000

As per the configurations on the router, you can enable the VPN Server and VPN Client simultaneously, however, we haven't tested how this will work and how the traffic data will be transferred in the network.

If you need to enable both features on the AX11000, you may give it a go and check how it works.

  @Kevin_Z

Actually, I tested this - i.e. both VPN Server and VPN client switched on - a while back, and it did work.

However, my testing lasted no more than a few hours, so I can't say anything about stability, etc.

@Sepharine

Regarding the AirVPN issue you were reporting, it seems you haven't replied to the email sent by our support engineers, they would like to work with you and try to figure out what is the issue.

Regarding the official firmware version for the AX11000, we confirmed with the engineers before that it's under testing and will be available soon, please wait patiently.
