Model: Tapo C520WS
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

I purchased 3 Tapo cameras during one week (a set of C420 and a C520ws). I'm testing the C520ws inside ma house, C420 are already working for one week.During the set up process of C520ws the internet connection in my house has crashed twice (even disabling the modem). I'm connecting to a TP-Link router. The router is doing a good job for several years, has never ever generated any issue like this. The internet connection till the modem is healthy, the service provider detected the router failure. Unplugging the camera did not help, neither switching off or resetting of the router, I had to reach the router quick setup and go through all the steps. I faced the similar issue the next day.Can you pleaser advice what the cause of this can be? Thanks in advance

  @Sutike

Hi there,

Thank you very much for forwarding my case to your engineer, who contacted me in a very short time.

He helped me to identify the root cause (it was actually my old router), which has been upgraded to a Deco M4 previously. So far so good, I hope it solves the issue.

Anyway, the first camera run into issues quite frequently, so replacing it also helped.

Thank you

Hi,
Please confirm the following information for the reported issue.

  1. Please describe your home network diagram, for example, internet--modem--Wi-Fi router ))) ((( camera, etc.

  2. What's the model number of your router? Is the Tapo C520WS connected to the router by an ethernet cable when configuring it? If so, please disconnect the ethernet connection.

  3. You can try to factory reset the camera, enable a hotspot Wi-Fi on your phone, configure the camera with another phone, connect it to the hotspot Wi-Fi, and then check if you can set it up successfully.

Best Regards

Hi

1/ My home network chain is as follows: internet -> modem -> Tp-Link TL-WR841ND router -> output 1: PC, output 2: Tapo H100 hub (1 week old) -> 2 Tapo C420 outdoor cameras. The C520WS V.1 is connecting via wifi (firmware: 1.2.10 Build 241025 Rel.55515n with automatic update enabled), with Sandisk Ultra micro SDXC UHS-I card installed.Currently 1 meter away form the router.

2/ Router model Tp-Link TL-WR841ND

3/ No, during configuration the connection was established via wifi

4/ I have one phone only at home. Reset done, red and green blinking, motion tracking working, but is offline in the app. What's next? Shall I remove it from the app?

Best regards

  @Sutike Did you set your cameras to static IP address?  There might be conflicting IP on your network.

Thanks for your answer. It was recommended to reset the C520WS, since then, it's offline in the app. So I cannot check the IP address.

May I have a bonus question? In case opf the C420 cameras I can set the Home or the Away modes. If I want to add my C520WS to home or away mode, how should I proceed? Do I have to add it twice or how? Thanks in advance

Hi,
1. If the Tapo C520WS shows offline on the Tapo app and the LED on the camera is flashing red and green, please remove the Tapo C520WS from the Tapo app and remove the microSD card from the camera.

2. Try to configure the camera via the Tapo app, and check if it will work fine. If so, insert the microSD card into the camera and configure the related settings.
How can I store the Tapo camera video recordings on a microSD card

3. Below are the instructions to set up the Home/Away mode on the Tapo app.
How to edit Home and Away Mode for Tapo Cameras on the Tapo app?

Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

Thanks for your answer.

1/ executed

2/ When adding to the Tapo app again, I'm prompted to go to my wifi settings. Under the AVAILABLE NETWORKS I can see Tapo_Cam_XXXX, but it says it's connected (no wifi access). My Tp-Link router has wifi access. The camera keeps blinking red and green.

Any idea?

Additional info: the MAC address on the camera and in the wifi settings do not match. Not any single character...

  @Sutike

Hi,
It's normal to see the default SSID of the camera and connect to it on your phone, since the Tapo app needs to find the camera first so your phone should connect to the default SSID. After that, you can go back to the Tapo app, and follow the instructions to connect the camera to your router's Wi-Fi.
Here are the detailed instructions: How to set up the Tapo camera

I'm not sure what MAC address in the Wi-Fi settings you are referring to, maybe you can send me the pictures showing the MAC address on the camera and in the Wi-Fi settings.

You can upload the pictures to your cloud server(such as Google Drive), generate a link to download them, and send me(@Solla-topee) the link via a private message.

Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

Thanks.

Strange, because I followed the instructions also yesterday, without any succes. Finally I got it connected now, but let me come back if I have any further issues.

Thank you
