Before the Upgrade

(1) Please be sure you have read the Beta Test Agreement before upgrading the pre-release firmware!

(2) For the sake of insurance, it's always recommended to save a copy of the router's Backup Config file before upgrading or downgrading.

(3) This pre-release firmware for Archer GE550/GE650 V1 is available for all versions.

(4) You may follow the guide to upgrade the firmware of your router. How to Upgrade the Firmware on the TP-Link Wi-Fi Routers.

(5)Important Note:

For non-EU version: Downgrading to a previous firmware version is not recommended, as it is highly likely to trigger a factory reset, requiring you to reconfigure your settings.
For the EU version: If you have previously updated to version 1.3.0 Beta Firmware(see here), you can retain the firmware, as the new features and optimizations have already been incorporated. If you update to the currently released 1.2.2 Pre-Release Firmware, you should be able to downgrade to version 1.2.1.

Hi @Joseph-TP,

Great timing on the announcement — it actually came just minutes after my post about the VPN Kill Switch feature 🙂.

The update looks very promising and would definitely solve my use case. However, I’m currently using the EU version of the GE550, running firmware 1.2.1 Build 20250828 rel.57524(4555). Could you please clarify if there are plans to bring these new features (especially the VPN Kill Switch) to the EU version anytime soon? Also, would it be safe to try out the US beta firmware in the meantime, or is it better to wait for the official EU release?

Thanks again for the continuous improvements and support!

Hi @Joseph-TP

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated! Looking forward to further updates.

Also, could you please clarify if it’s safe to try the US pre-release firmware on the EU router, or if it’s better to wait for the official EU release to avoid the risk of bricking the device? 🙂

Hello @Kane1337 ,

If you can temporarily disable QoS to fix the anomaly and wish to use the new features, you can download the Pre-release firmware to experience them: Archer GE550_V1/Archer GE650_V1_1.1.3 Build 20260409(Pre-Release Firmware)

This update introduces lots of new functions and system optimizations, and it’s reversible to the older 1.1.x official firmware.

As for the release date of the official firmware, we have not yet received any clear notification.

If you encounter an anomaly where enabling QoS generates a large amount of bufferbloat and you do not want to disable QoS, you can install and download: Archer GE550_V1_1.3.0 Build 20260328(Beta Firmware)

This version cannot be directly reverted to the previous version.
