Hi all

I am experiencing a strange issue with my tapo smart plug. It worked fine for 5 months but lately, during the last month, time counters keep increasing by themselves also when smart plug is off.

Because I use the plug to recharge Pb batteries is fundamental for me to keep a look to the time they have been under charge, but now it's impossible.

Before the issue appeared counters were very accurate, counting in decimal ratio but neat.

I didn't find any other related topic, apologize if this is a duplicated thread.

I have tried to reset few times the plug to its factory settings and setup it again but it didn't help at all.

Any suggestion is welcome.

Thank you for attention.

  @Leeveeo

Are you referring to the Runtime? How did you reset the plug?

What's the version of your Tapo App? Make sure it is updated. What's the model and Android/iOS version of your phone?

When you say the smart plug is off, are you referring its power supply to the appliance? Or when it is unplugged from the power source?

Hello Wayne-TP

first of all thank you for replying.

I refer to the runtime, when I wrote about on and off status I referred to the action of the plug to the appliance (battery charger). Usually the plug itself is always powered, I have tried disconnecting it from the source for a while only to solve this issue but it didn't help.

There are three runtime counters in app, daily, weekly, monthly and all keep increasing quite randomly even when the appliance is not powered by the plug, or at least it seems so.... I have not checked the plug continuously for 24 hours but till now I have not experienced random unexpected powering on the appliance. The three counters increase randomly of the same amount of time, they keep coherence.

I reset the plug by keeping pressed the only button of the plug for about ten seconds, till the status led start blinking slowly in two colors (green and orange if I remember well...), then configure it again starting from factory settings.

tapo app version is 3.4.512 on the phone, it seems to be the latest from play store

I used  the app to check on three android phone, nokia 7.2, nokia G42, Samsung S22 Ultra but the behaviour always the same, the counters of the three phones display the same runtime and the same random increase.

the minimum android version used is 11.

It's quite a strange issue, don't you think so too? I guess I wouldn't have found it if using the plug to power lights or other similar appliances, but because I needed to know the time Pb batteries are kept in trickle charge after use I keep checking the runtime counters.... at the beginning they were very neat, with a tolearance of about +-3 mins due to decimal counting (minimum step 0,1 hour, 6 mins).

I programmed the app with few shortcuts, depending on status of the batteries I choose one of them. They function this way: after a certain delay time (i.e. 1,5 hours) the plug feed the charger for a certain time (i.e. 2 hours), then the plug power off the charger. the next day I used to check the time charger has been powered to be sure the process ended up in success. Now can't be checked anymore cause the runtime counters are totally not accurate.

I hope I achieved to write in good english, it was quite a long time I didn't do it anymore and wonder if I am still used to, I apologize if reading what I wrote is not easy.

Thanks a lot for attention.

Bye

Livio

  @Leeveeo

Are you sure you have a Tapo plug? It seems like this is a Kasa plug, as the Tapo plug only shows the runtime for Today and This month. Please double-check the model.

Is the battery charger always plugged in? What if you remove it from the plug?

Hi Wayne-TP,

the plug is a tapo tp-100.

the app is tapo, runtime counters are three: today, last 7 days, last 30 days.

I've tried to leave the plug powered alone, disconnecting the charger, for about 2 days without switching it on from app. The counters keep increasing quite randomly... next try I may change the timezone if allowed... don't know what to think anymore...

thank you

  @Wayne-tp

Hello,

I've tried to leave the plug not powered for a while, during this period counters didn't increase: in fact when the plug has been powered again the runtime counter of the last day indicated 0 and the ones of last 7 days and last 30 days indicated the same time of when plug was disconnected from power supply. After few hours plug has been powered again without switching it on even for a second the counters started increasing randomly again.

I guess this means that something is not functioning properly in the plug.

I am in Australia and own 3 tapo p100, all having the same issues, the time counter in the app just keep creeping up evwn though the switch is off.

Like this morning when i woke up, the daily run time already says 0.2. No way i used it for 0.2, it was off overnight!

Is there a glitch somewhere?

  @Wayne-TP

Hello,

I am having the same issue with a Tapo P100 plug (firmware 1.2.5 Build 240411 Rel.143808) which is used to power a heated airer.

As I write, at 6.25am, it's showing that it's been powered on for 4.3hr today. It definitely hasn't!

It has apparently been 'on' for 334.5hr over the past 30 days. It hasn't. Maybe 15hr or so.

I already have a daily 5.30am schedule set to turn the plug 'off' (just in case) as well as a 4hr auto-off timer (which is the longest I'd want the airer to be in use).

I've now added a smart action to notify me when the plug is powered up but I'm certain that these indications of runtime are incorrect.

I also have a couple of P110 plugs and some Kasa plugs. All of these appear to show correct runtimes.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kind regards,

Kroma
