Model: Tapo C200
Hardware Version: V7
Firmware Version: 1.0.17

Hi to all

I bought this camera 2 months ago, at first in my previous apartment I had no problems, I was very happy with the app and the picture quality. However, after I moved and changed internet providers the problems started. Just like other users I have read, I have connection issues. When I restart the router, it works fine for 1-10 hours, then the connection drops. I have called my internet provider and tried many different things but nothing has worked (static IP, DNS server changed, port forwarding, DMZ...etc) I have tried writing to them and calling them. No reply to the mails and very poor service on the phone. To clarify i am currently in Italy and changed from FastWeb to Illiad (i have an illiad box router with an extender). By now i think i have identified it has something to do with the movement detection, allthough i have it disactivated, i've noticec it disconnects after recognizing motion. Yesterday i tried a new ocnfiguration on the router (opened port 2002 UPN) and it started working, i went to sleep ant had the green light. Tomorrow morning i passed it and was surprised to the se the green light, however after passing again i noticed it was with the orange light and of course, disconnected from the app.  I tried conencting another router and setting it up in bridge mode, and connect the camera to it. It works perfectlly fine in terms of streaming, but just locally, as soons as i turn off the wifi on my phone it looses connection.

I've reviewed the log an the most repeated errors are :

1- 4 HTTP - HTTP Client Send Buffer is full

2- 4 HTTP - Close Session Called

3-4 P2P -  P2P free session  (Session_ID)
4- 2 CloudIoT MQTT conn err 1006 - MQTT Event 4 err, stas 0
5- 2  HTTP P2p dbg - UDT state (6)

After I've tried the port forwarding it works for a longer period of time (sometime) until it hits the HTTP Client buffer is full and then it goes into an infinite loop of MQTT conn error, and then in does not work anymore (sometimes randomly it connects again, and then, obviously, disconnects again.

Best regards

Hi,
You can refer to the instructions below to troubleshoot the connection issue.
What should I do if my Tapo smart device keeps losing connection or going offline?

If the problem remains, please confirm:
  1. The network diagram. (Is the Tapo C200 connected to the router's Wi-Fi directly? How far between the router and the camera?)
  2. Do you have a stable connection when connecting to the router's Wi-Fi? How about the Internet speed?
  3. When the Tapo C200 is working, go to its Device Settings > Device Info page, tap the Wi-Fi icon and send me the RSSI value.
  4. When the issue occurs, is the LED on the camera solid orange? How do you recover the connection, such as reboot the camera?
  5. If you can enable a hotspot Wi-Fi on your phone, try to factory reset the camera, reconfigure it, connect it to the hotspot Wi-Fi, and check if it will work fine.

Typically, there is no need to open ports on the router for the camera to manage/control it via the Tapo app.

Best Regards

Hi
In this case, you may try to change the Wi-Fi settings on your router and check if it helps. For example:
  1. Change the Wi-Fi channel to another one within 1-11.
  2. Disable the Smart Connect feature on the router if it has, change the 5G Wi-Fi name on the router to another one.
  3. If your router has a guest network, try to connect the camera to the 2.4G guest network only and check if it will work fine.

Best Regards

Thanks for your answer  @Solla-topee ,

The problem in fact still remains :

  • Network Diagram:

    • The Tapo C200 is connected to the main router’s Wi-Fi, located approximately 5.5 meters from the router.
  • Connection Stability:

    • When connecting to the Wi-Fi, sometimes rebooting the camera allows it to work properly, but other times the connection issue arises from the start. The camera connects initially, but when I attempt to change its name, the LED turns solid orange, and I can no longer connect. The overall network connection is stable with no issues for other devices. Internet speed ranges from a minimum of 300 Mbps to a maximum of 900 Mbps.
  • RSSI Value:

    • The RSSI value of the camera when it's working is -51 dBm.
  • LED Status During Issues:

    • When the issue occurs, the camera's LED turns solid orange. Sometimes it turns green again and either works properly or stays green without functioning. Rebooting the router temporarily resolves the issue, and the camera reconnects and works fine for a while before losing connection again. If I reboot the camera, it remains stuck on the solid orange LED.
  • Hotspot Test:

    • The camera works fine when connected to a phone’s hotspot from the same distance as the router. Although I haven’t tested it for more than 2-3 hours, it has had no connection issues during that time. In comparison, the connection with the router typically presents problems within the same time span.

  Hi @Solla-topee

I followed your instructions, and it seems to be working. Normally, at this point, after rebooting, it would have gone offline.
However, the light is still solid orange, so I think it will eventually lose connection.

I'll keep this thread updated in case it disconnects.

Thanks

Br

Thanks, it seems to work fine, it has not shown signs of not streaming whenever I try to access it in the app. However, the light alternates between green and orange.

Thanks for the support

Hi,
The LED status is abnormal when the camera is working fine. It's recommended to check the MAC address on the camera and check the camera's MAC address on the Tapo app to confirm you are managing the correct camera. If so, you may ignore the LED status if you don't mind.
Best Regards
