use motion detection without internet connection
Hi I would like to use my Tapo C200 camera to detect if my landlord gets into my room without my knowledge. I have a wifi network in the apartment that has no outside internet access (I use the wifi network to control my tplino smart plug). I have an sd card that I can put inside the camera to store videos.
I know that I could easily set up movement alerts from the camera, however since there is no internet connection in the apartment I can't receive those.
I would like a way to manually check of there's movement detected in the day, and then manually check the footage from the sd card.
Hope I explained myself, I am not a native speaker. Thank you.

Hi,
You can try the following steps:
1. Enable a hotspot Wi-Fi on your phone, and set the name and password the same as the Wi-Fi network in the apartment.
2. Factory reset the camera, reconfigure it with another phone, and connect it to the hotspot Wi-Fi.
3. After the camera is configured successfully, insert the SD card into the camera, format it by following the instructions on the Tapo app, enable the detection feature on the camera, and set up the recording feature as per your desire.
How to use the Detection function of the Tapo cameras
Where can I find detection recordings of Tapo cameras on the Tapo app?
How can I view continuous recordings of Tapo cameras on the Tapo app?
4. Turn off the hotspot Wi-Fi on your phone, reboot the camera, and it will connect to the home Wi-Fi usually.
5. Since the detection feature and recording feature work without an internet connection, you can go to the Tapo app > camera's Playback & Download > Playback > SD card page to find/watch the detection video clips.

@Solla-topee Hi thank you for hthe reply. Is there a way where I don't need two phones? Maybe making the hotspot on my laptop? I will try that.

Hi,
You can try the hotspot Wi-Fi from your laptop. And if your home Wi-Fi doesn't have special settings, such as AP isolation, you can try to configure the camera to connect to the home Wi-Fi directly.

Hi,
Usually, it's able to configure the camera to connect to the home Wi-Fi via the Tapo app even if the Wi-Fi has no internet, however, you can only control the camera locally when the phone connects to the same Wi-Fi.

Hi,
Have you inserted an SD card into the camera to store video recordings? If you are using the Tapo Care service, it works only when the camera connects to the internet.

@Solla-topee yes, of course I have inserted an SD card, that's why I am wondering why it's not saving the recording even if there's no internet access

Hi,
On the camera's Device Settings > Storage & Recordings page, please ensure the Local Recording is enabled. On the Recording Schedule page, please set the camera to record continuously all the time, then check if you can watch the video recordings on the camera's Playback & Download > Playback > SD card page.
