Model: Tapo C425
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.21 Build 240809 Rel.52696n

I have just bought numerous Tapo C425 Cameras (mixed with some solar panels).

Sadly, it looks like i have made this decision off the back of old information and functionality supposedly available in previous firmware versions.
I.E. i was under the impression i could use ONVIF to store video streams on a local NVR.

Some details about my situation:

  1. Ultimately I don't care so much if i can see live streams via a local NVR.
  2. However, I do care about being able to pull down the recordings to archive on a NAS or similar periodically. Eg. every X configured hours.
  3. My internet availability is considered sketchy at best. I don't want to use cloud services.
  4. The cameras would be mounted where they are difficult/painful to access. I don't want to have to get up on a ladder every now and then to copy the content onto local backup.

How do I remotely connect to the camera from the local network and gain read-only access to the recordings (xxxxxxxx_xxxxxx_tp00000x.mp4)?

Thanks.

Hi,
1. The Tapo battery-powered cameras, including the Tapo C425, do not support RTSP/Onvif connection, so it's unable to store the Tapo C425's video recordings on a NAS via RTSP/Onvif connection.

2. If you have inserted an SD card into the camera to store video recordings, you can watch and download the video recordings from the Tapo app locally. When you are on a remote network, watching the SD card video recordings is no problem, but it's unable to download the video recordings from the Tapo app.

Best Regards
