Model: Tapo C100
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.3.14

My Tapo C100 started to randomly show as offline when accessing from outside the local wifi network.

If I'm connected to the wifi, it will work with no problems, but if I use my smartphone data or connect through another network, it will show as offline. If i restart the camera, it will work for a few hours, but will randomly show as offline again after some time.

I have numerous other tapo devices (including three other cameras) and they work with no problems.

I have it for a year and always worked flawlessly. The only thing that changed was that I updated the firmware last week.

I have another Tapo Camera (C200) connected to the same network that was having the same problem a few days ago. These were the two cameras whose firmware was recently updated, so I'm starting to think this problem was started because of the update, since they always worked fine until I updated them.

Any help would be nice.

Hi,
Please confirm the following information for the reported issue.
  1. How about the LED status on the camera when it shows offline on the Tapo app?

  2. Please go to the Tapo app > Camera's Device Settings > Device Info page, tap the Wi-Fi icon, and check the RSSI value.

  3. What's the model number of your router? Please check if there are special settings, such as Parent Control, Access Control, firewall, etc., enabled on the router for the camera. If so, disable them for a try.

  4. Please press the reset button for 10 seconds to factory reset the Tapo C100, then reconfigure it and check if it will work fine.

  5. Please send me(@Solla-topee) the camera's MAC address via a private message.

Best Regards

Hi  @Solla-topee,

1. How about the LED status on the camera when it shows offline on the Tapo app?
It remains green, unchanged. When I later connect to the same network and it shows online again, I can see it recorded to the sd card with no interruptions, so I'd say the camera is working fine, but can't connect to the tp-link server;

2. Please go to the Tapo app > Camera's Device Settings > Device Info page, tap the Wi-Fi icon, and check the RSSI value.

Can't access the camera right now, will do when I get home;

3. What's the model number of your router? Please check if there are special settings, such as Parent Control, Access Control, firewall, etc., enabled on the router for the camera. If so, disable them for a try.
Can't check that right now, but I have three other cameras connected to the same router working fine (and farther from it), and I didn't change a thing, so it's definitely not a router problem;

4. Please press the reset button for 10 seconds to factory reset the Tapo C100, then reconfigure it and check if it will work fine.
Will only do that as a last resort, if nothing else works;

5. Please send me(@Solla-topee) the camera's MAC address via a private message.

Can't access the camera right now, will do when I get home.

Additionally, if I disconnect the camera from the power source and plug it back, it works fine for a few hours, but will eventually show offline again if I try to connect to it from another network.

Thanks in advance!

@Solla-topee, more info:

At this moment, I have two cameras that have the same problem, which were the two whose firmware I updated last week:

a Tapo C100, Hardware 4.0, Firmware 1.3.14,

and a Tapo C200, Hardware 3.0, Firmware 1.3.15.

2. Please go to the Tapo app > Camera's Device Settings > Device Info page, tap the Wi-Fi icon, and check the RSSI value.

Tapo C100: -61

Tapo C200: -24

UPDATE

At this moment, this particular camera is offline in the Tapo app, if I connect using my phone data. If I connect to the same wifi network, it immediately shows as online. I can also ping it using a pc and access the live stream using a pc and vlc, so I'm pretty sure it is functioning correctly, just loses connection to the tp-link cloud.

A problem on tp-link's end, maybe?

Hi,
Currently, I have not received any notification that our cloud server has a problem. If there is a problem with the cloud server, your other Tapo devices, such as Tapo Plug, will not be able to be remotely controlled.

For your question, it is recommended that you reply to the tech team email or wait for their analysis results.
Best Regards

Yesterday

  @Solla-topee

Hi,

I can report the exact same problem with my C500 Camera. I hooked it up 2 days ago. I was always around the house, always connected to my WiFi and could always see and Control it perfectly. Today I left and on the way I wanted look at the Live footage but it said that the camera was offline. I texted my dad at home and he said, he could used normaly with the app. As soon as he disabled his WiFi, he also couldn't see it anymore. I have done every possible Setting on the Router to try to get it to work, but it just wont. Am also able to view on my PC using Ispy. So I have no idea what the problem is. Maybe someone can help.

By the way, I have to say I love the Camera so far, espacially the Price to performance. If works fine during the next week. We're gonna get like 6 or 7 more Cameras Al across our Farm.

Thanks, from Germany

  @BauerTanja

Hi,
The phenomenon description shows that the camera is not connected to the internet or cloud server, so you can control it locally only. You can refer to the instructions below to check if the tips will help.
What to do if I can't control my Tapo cameras on the Tapo app?

If the problem remains, please try to enable a hotspot Wi-Fi on your phone, factory reset the camera, reconfigure it on a different phone, and connect it to the hotspot Wi-Fi, then check if you can control it remotely.

Best Regards
