Model: Tapo C210
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.4.5

Bought a C210 3 days ago and starting using it. Very happy with the app and C210. Just a few comments:

1) Turning off the status LED indicator does not disable the blinking red light (which occurs if the Wi-Fi is unavailable).

2) At the bottom of the screen it displays "<1/36>". I guess it might mean there can be max. 36 devices. But it is not good to show this thing anyway.

3) There should be a button for exiting the settings (rather than clicking the back button a few times).

4) When the Wi-Fi is down, the camera can still detect motions and does video recording. It would be better if the camera can send alerts to the app once the Wi-Fi is restored (at least saying something like "6 motion detections during 8:33 - 12:05".

5) It should use popular USB power source instead of its own power adaptor.

Real question is: Will the recording file get damaged if I simply turn of the camera power of? Or is there a proper procedure to shutdown the camera?

  @newtapouser

Hi,
Regarding your comments:
1)  The camera blinks red light when the Wi-Fi is unavailable to notify the user that the camera has a connection issue, and the blinking red light can't be turned off when the Status LED option is disabled.
2) <1/36> on the camera's live view page means that you can swipe left and right to view up to 36 cameras' live view pages, not that the Tapo app can only add up to 36 cameras.

For the other comments, I'll log them and forward them to the relevant team for evaluation.

Regarding your question:
Typically, power off the camera won't damage the video recordings, and you can unplug the power adapter to power off the camera.
If you just don't want the camera to monitor or record videos, you can turn on the privacy mode rather than power off the camera.

Best Regards

Thanks a lot for the speedy reply.

1) I would think it's better to disable the LED light completely. Why do people want to turn off the LED status light? I think most likely they don't want to tell "Here is my security camera". For home security indoor use, the only purpose is to record the intruder without telling where the camera is.

2) At the moment I have only 1 camera. The app should have a bit intelligence to display 1/1 and even better not to display 1/1. Anyway, I feel it is an old ASCII terminal style to display m/n. I hope there is a better way to do it.

I have a few further comments on the app:

A) When Wi-Fi is unavailable, the app should show something like "connection to the camera has failed", instead of telling user to refresh the screen.

B) During Playback, when I clicked Download, it shows a message "Unable to download clips. Your phone is not connected to the same network as your Tapo device." I am using my phone to setup a hotspot and the Tapo camera is connected to the hotspot Wi-Fi. I understand this kind of usage may not be desirable, but the app should work and it has likely a bug in recognizing networks. Download should be allowed as long as a connection is available and regardless of the same network or not. The download works on my tablet (both the camera and the tablet are connected to the same hotspot provided by my phone).

C) I wish the app has a function to download whole video files (not just individual clips) recorded on the microSD card. This is useful, since taking out the microSD card and then copy its files to my PC is not practical once the camera is installed. Of course the app can remind user the download may take very long time if the camera and the app are not on the same Wi-Fi network.

D) I tried this: Power off the camera, and then after a while power it on but without Wi-Fi connection. It seems that the camera continues to record video from the previous recorded time point. As a result, the timestamp is not reliable.

E) I would suggest have a text log file that records important events: Camera boots, connections and disconnections to the Wi-Fi, motion detections, and disable / re-enable of recording. This can be helpful for determining the right time stamp in case of D) happens, as mentioned above, as well as point 4) in my previous post.

  @newtapouser @Solla-topee

Exact same thing I also told.

LED should not blink if disabled

And

There should be option to download whole clip from SD card using app rather than small clips.

It's ok if it takes time but it's much needed.

I want to download daily recording at end of day but it's veru frustrating to download 3 min clips one by one and in between it refresh than whole efforts goes lost

You can set 1 hour per clip download limit but allow large clip download directly from SD card.

Camara also located on height so it's not feasible to remove card everytime you need clip

A suggestion , You may launch a separate apk to download specifically large clips if not possible to integrate it in existing app

Or allow use of any existing third party app if available , which can access sd card data from camera and allow to download efficiently.

Is it available on Play Store?

Please consider this one very promptly with devloper team & provide the solution
