C325WB not detecting certain events
C325WB not detecting certain events

I'm in the midst of testing 2 C325WB cameras before installing them at their respective intended locations.
I have turned on detection for Motion (sensitivity=8), Person (sensitivity=9), and Animal (sensitivity=9) in both cameras. The cameras have an overlapped area of view near the top of the field of view.
I happened to notice one of the cameras captured a footage of a person moving in that area but the other camera did not record anything during that time. There is no firmware update during that time so the camera should be available.
This shows that there are definitely situations where movements are not detected by these cameras and so they may fail to record certain vital footage. It is quite likely that this is not an issue that's specific to this particular model only.
This is a serious issue that should not happen in a security camera and therefore should be addressed quickly.

Hi,
The working mechanism of Tapo battery-powered cameras differs from the traditional wired Tapo cameras. Generally, the battery-powered cameras enter a sleep state when no events are detected. They wake up when you perform certain operations on the app, such as watching the camera's live view, and they can also be woken up by events detected through the PIR sensor. Once the camera is awakened, it will start detecting and recording events. This process is influenced not only by the camera's settings but also by its installation position and the movement patterns of detected events.
You can refer to the following guidelines to understand the camera's wake-up mechanism:
What is the Wake-up Sensitivity of my battery camera/doorbell?
Additionally, please refer to the following instructions to adjust the camera's settings and installation position for an improved user experience:
What should I do if my battery-powered camera can't detect the motion?
For the Tapo D235, if it is powered via electric wires, there is no need for a wake-up process. It will begin recording as soon as an event enters the detection zone, so you have no problems with recording.

Well, I have also noticed similar behavior on the C325WB & C520WS, which are not battery powered. The object is already somewhere in the middle of the field of view when the recording starts. The clip I sent you earlier happens to be an example of such a case.
When it is working correctly, the detection video would start before the moving object enters the scene.
I believe this happens on other models as well.

Thank you for your answer. I shall double check the angle of the camera. But to be honest. It is good that battery powered camera's go to sleep but it is not a good thing to lay them in a coma. Not a good thing if you are asking me. You need/want to rely on the event detection and @ this stage this is not the case when it comes to your battery powered cameras.
PS
The sensitivity on the camera is set to max and many times you see that the camera just don't wanna wake up. So what else is there to do?

For the case of non-battery powered cameras, if you enable continuous recording, you will be able to see many occurrences of moving objects entering the scene earlier but are only detected later. I'm seeing this almost on a daily basis. This happens on various models so it's a common problem.
The implication is there is a delay in the start of recording as well as triggering of alarm.
It's possible that if the delay is long enough, it may even miss the entire event altogether!

Hi,
If an event can't wake up the camera, you may try to reproduce the event and record it manually on the camera's live view page, then send the video to us for further analysis.
You can upload the video to your cloud server(such as Google Drive), generate a link to download it, and send me(@Solla-topee) the link via a private message.

Hi,
In most cases, non-battery powered Tapo cameras will start recording once moving objects enter the camera's detection zone. However, in certain situations—such as when the moving objects are small or located far from the camera—it is possible that the camera may not detect them quickly. This issue relates to the specific usage scenario as well as the moving objects. Please feel free to email specific cases to our tech team for further analysis.

I have already done so but I'm very disappointed with the response I received so far. Sorry, I just have to say this: Your team doesn't seem to be keen on solving the issues and seem to prefer to find an easy way out.
Unreliable products is one thing. Unreliable support is another. If this is the way it is, I will have to look at other brands if things don't improve. What's the point of using security cameras that can't be depended upon?

I have just discovered yet another issue. This time "motion" & "animal" detection events were triggered and the respective notifications were received. Both events were also recorded. However, the alarm (which was set to trigger when "animal" or "person" is detected) was not triggered!
The camera was configured to detect Motion, Animal & Person. In this case, "Motion" was detected first when the animal appeared within the view of the camera. The object was only identified as an animal 11 seconds later. Both detection events triggered their respective notifications. Both detection types were also identified in the recording. However, no alarm was triggered.
As for the previous issues, your support team emphasized that unless I install the beta firmware as part of the troubleshooting & problem solving process, nothing can be done.
So unless a user/customer is willing to go through this process, nothing will be done to the reported problems!!
I'm not counting on your support team to act on this new issue that I have just reported here. I just want everyone else here to know that there may be plenty of other issues that we are not aware of yet. Many of them will reveal themselves over time if you pay attention.
