Tapo C500 enters a restart loop after losing connection
Hello,
I bought two Tapo C500 cameras about two months ago. Overall, they work well, but I'm facing a recurring issue:
Whenever the power goes out, even for just one minute, the cameras boot up faster than my router. As a result, they fail to connect to the network and enter a constant restart loop.
The same thing happens when the internet connection drops for a few seconds or minutes — the cameras start restarting repeatedly and never recover on their own.
To "fix" it, I have to manually power off the cameras, then restart my router. Once the router is fully online and synced, I turn the cameras back on — and then they work fine again.
Is this expected behavior? Shouldn’t the cameras be able to reconnect automatically when the network becomes available again?
As an example, last night my internet connection likely went down temporarily. All other devices (like smartphones) reconnected normally, but both cameras were stuck in this restart loop until I woke up and manually reset them.
Any help or explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi,
The camera can usually reconnect to the router's Wi-Fi after a power outage or internet outage. In your situation, please try disabling settings such as Smart Connect on your router and check if it helps. If the router's 2.4G and 5G networks use the same Wi-Fi name, try setting a different name for the 5G network.
What do you mean the camera enters a constant restart loop? What are the LED status changes on the camera?

Hello, Solla-topee. Sorry for the late reply. I'm still experiencing the issue.
The camera connects for a few seconds, but then the LED turns red and it loses the connection. After that, it seems to restart automatically. This cycle keeps repeating.
I've checked the Wi-Fi signal strength at the camera's location, it's around –48. My internet is working fine for other devices, but the camera keeps behaving this way, as if it's stuck in a reboot loop.
They were working fine before, but now both cameras are showing the same behavior. My 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks have different names, and the cameras are correctly connected to the 2.4GHz network.

Hi,
How do you judge that the camera is stuck in a reboot loop? Would you please describe the LED changes on the camera when the issue occurs? For example, if the LED is only flashing slowly red, it means the camera is connecting to Wi-Fi constantly rather than being stuck in a reboot loop.
What's the model number and hardware version of your router?
Please refer to the instructions below to collect the camera log for further analysis.

I have exactly the same issue. And the camera is in a boot loop because it turns all around exactly as when it is powered on. And when it gets in this state, I couldn't find any other way to fix it, except by hard rebooting it. But it's not feasible when I'm traveling, for example.
My router is an old TL-WR840N, which doesn't have 5GHz band.

Hi,
Please ensure your camera is powered by the original power adapter and cord that comes with the camera in the box, rather than other extension power cords or power adapters.

@Solla-topee It certainly is the original power adapter and cord. And the power outlet is fine.
This is happening with 2 Tapo C500 I've bought. I regret I didn't buy a cheaper chinese camera. These were not cheap and are completely useless in this state.
Look how they behave:
