Model: Tapo C520WS
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.11

Hi TP-link support ,

I am currently using a Tapo C520WS it worked well for 5 days after installation but now it randomly disconnects (mostly while viewing the live stream) and is not viewable even in local network until I reset the power manually and the video is very stuttery in the rare time it works.

The camera freezes and disconnects from the router and the status led turns yellow

But local recordings and motion tracking still works

It's highly unreliable and defeats the purpose of a security camera

Some stats :

WiFi range: -64 RSSI (router placed within 8 metres of the camera)

RTSP/Camera Account : Turned Off

Network Settings: Turned Off

Video Quality: 720p 15FPS

Router: Nokia G2425G-A (provided by airtel)

The diagnostic Logs reveals this before the disconnection

[Transmit]buffer full! iov_size(1659) try_send(1659) sent(752) left(907)

 idle --> dns query.

[Transmit]buffer full! iov_size(65388) try_send(65388) sent(41594) left(23794)

<4>2025-06-14 13:48:22[HTTP]http client(local-0) send buffer is full!

<4>2025-06-14 13:48:22[HTTP]http client(local-0) send buffer is full!

<4>2025-06-14 13:48:23[HTTP]http client(local-0) send buffer is full!

Further followed by:

DNS failed, error_type: 1006.

I have tried setting 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 in the DNS of my router and in the camera also

I tried factory resetting the camera too and is of no use

Other devices in my home network works fine except the camera

I use only the 2.4 Ghz band for the camera and it's a single router system

I have even tried using a mobile hotspot and it has the same results

I use the original adapter

Please find a solution to this problem at the earliest or replace/return the camera if found faulty.

  @AutoNation

Hi,
The Tapo C520WS V1, v1.3.2, has no known bugs related to the Wi-Fi disconnection issue. There are new features and optimized algorithms added to the new firmware v1.3.3, and they improve the product's use experience and stability.

You can press the reset button on the camera for 10 seconds to factory reset it, reconfigure it to make it work, and then update to the v1.3.3 firmware to see if it improves the disconnection problem.

If the problem persists, please confirm the following information:

  1. Is your camera connected directly to the router's Wi-Fi? What is the signal strength(RSSI value on the camera's Device Info page)?
  2. When the disconnection issue occurs, is the LED solid amber on the camera? Can other devices connected to the same router successfully ping the camera's IP address?
  3. How frequently does the disconnection issue happen?
  4. Please refer to the instructions below to collect the camera log for further analysis.

Best Regards

Hi,
The new official firmware for the Tapo C520WS V1 is being released gradually. Please ensure your camera's firmware and the Tapo app are up to date.

If so, please provide the following information.
  1. Send me(@Solla-topee) the camera's MAC address via a private message.

  2. Check the Tapo app version. You can also stream the camera with another phone and check if the issue persists.

  3. If possible, connect the camera to the router using an ethernet cable and check if it works fine.

Best Regards

  @Joseph_

Hi,
It may be that the camera is not successfully connected to our cloud server, so it can't detect the new firmware. You can try to enable a hotspot Wi-Fi on your phone, factory reset the camera, configure it with another phone, connect it to the hotspot Wi-Fi, and then check the LED on the camera. If the LED is solid green and you can control the camera remotely in the Tapo app, try updating the camera's firmware.

  @Solla-topee Hi Solla Topee,

After multiple attempts I successfully managed to upgrade to 1.3.3 firmware

But sadly the issue still persists and the camera goes offline after 10-15 minutes or viewing live

The indicator turns yellow and live feed is not viewable even in home network

I am seriously disappointed about this camera's reliability and performance and it's really pathetic for a product in this range

Kindly arrange a replacement for the faulty product

  @Joseph_  Hi, I am also facing similar issue and I am frustrated now. What I have tried, but nithing works:

  • Multiple routers tested:

    • EX220-G2u (from ACT Broadband)

    • TP-Link Archer A6 v2

    • TP-Link Archer A6 v3 (currently in use,  Firmware 1.0.16 Build 20230828)

  • Changed DNS on the router to 8.8.8.8 (based on community forum suggestions).

  • Attempted several factory resets over the last few months — they never resolved the disconnection issue.

  • Installed latest firmwareTapo C520WS V1 1.3.2 Build 250228 (released recently).

  • After this firmware update, the camera completely stopped connecting to the internet.

  @Solla-topee

What are the bugs that were addressed in 1.3.3 firmware update regarding the wifi disconnection issue? The release doesnt mention about this?
