Model: Tapo C220
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.2 build 250610 Rel.61762n

This may be a non-starter, but if so maybe TPlink could consider updating the firmware\app to amend the below issues assuming this isn't user error on my behalf.

My problem lies with movement notifications being so spammy on my 3x Tapo C220's. I want notifications ON so if someone passes through a room it'll ding my phone, but is there a way to set a "cooldown" or similar for the notification events? Because so far for me when notifications are turned on literally any and all movement in the room continually spams notifications every second someone is moving. This results in DINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDING on my phone for something as simple as me walking around my living room lol. I wish it would have a time-delay between notifications, like setting a 30sec or 10min delay before sending another one. Or that once it detects movement it sends a notification, and then doesn't send another one until it detects 2mins of "no movement" then detects "fresh movement". The notification option becomes useless if all it does is spamspamspam my phone when I'm walking around a room. Unless I'm doing something wrong? Yes I can set detection areas, and detection schedules, but doesn't change that it spams me as it is designed right now.

Second question is around movement detection recording. Is there a way to set how long it records after detecting movement? Right now it seems to record for 5 or 10sec after detecting movement, sometimes when continual movement is detected it records for 2 minutes, maybe 3min, but no more than that, even when movement is still occurring it stops recording and I can't figure out why. Is there a way to set a minimum time to record after a detection event like 10mins? Any reason why even though movement is still happening it will stop recording randomly even though it's set to record when movement is detected? My SD cards are the right speed\class and are over 90% free space so it's not running out of space or anything like that (it's set to loop anyways). Thoughts? Thanks all!

Hi,
Please confirm the following information about your concerns.

1. In the camera's Device Settings > Notifications page, could you please confirm if you have selected only "Person Detection" for the Activity Type? If you have other detection types selected, I recommend not choosing them to see if it reduces the number of notifications you receive.

2. Do you currently subscribe to the Tapo Care service, or are the camera's video recordings only saved to the inserted microSD card?

3. Generally, after a camera detects an event, it will only send you one notification of the same detection type, and only one video clip will be created. For example, if you find that you are receiving multiple "person-detected" notifications while moving within the camera's detection zone, it may be due to your movements not being continuous. For instance, if you walk for a few seconds, pause for a while, move again, pause for a while, and then move again, the camera might interpret this as several separate events, resulting in multiple notifications and several short video clips.

If your situation differs from the example I provided, please describe your specific usage scenario. Alternatively, you can manually record a video of the situation you experience in the camera's live view and send it to us for analysis. This will help us provide you with proper suggestions.
You can upload the video to your cloud server (such as Google Drive), generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.

Best Regards

@Solla-topee Thanks so much for your reply Solla-Topee,  some answers to your questions:

1) I deselected all notification types but left "motion detection" on as the only one. Could that be the issue maybe? I assumed I was streamlining the process by just doing motion detection but maybe that's why it constantly sends non-stop notifications everytime I move near the camera? I can try changing it to just Person and see what happens.

2) The cameras are set to record to MicroSD Card (256gb sandisks).

3) I'll try switching my settings and see if specifying person detection does it for me. That would be excellent if it did! If it does not work I'll find a way to upload to my Gdrive and send you an example. Thanks again for the reply and I'll be sure to report back here the result after I get a chance to test it.

I'll try and attach a screenshot but I just turned on the people setting as discussed and while moving around the room i still get spammed with notifications. This was about 1-2min apart on average for a total of 7 notifications to my phone while folding laundry.

  @Guyfromthenorth

Hi,
The continuous notifications you're receiving may be related to specific activities occurring within the camera's monitoring range. If you'd like further analysis, please provide the following information:

  1. Please go to the camera's Device Settings > Detection page, send us the screenshots of the detection page, the page of the detection zones, and the pages of the enabled detection types.
  2. You can manually record a video of the period during which you received frequent notifications by clicking the record button on the camera's Live View page, then downloading the video to your phone and sending it to us for analysis.
  3. On the camera's Live View > Playback & Download > Playback > SD card page, please send us the screenshot of the video clips generated during that period.

You can upload the video and screenshots to your cloud server (such as Google Drive), generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.

By the way, the Tapo cameras do not have an option to set a "cooldown" for the notifications, and do not have an option to adjust the minimum recording duration of the detection video clip. I'll log your feature requests and forward them to the product team for evaluation.

Best Regards
