I bought four Tapo C200 cameras about a year and a half ago and installed them on the ceiling in four different rooms. Until recently, I had absolutely no complaints — quite the opposite, actually. I’ve always considered them one of my best purchases in recent years, and my family and I have used them a lot.

However, about a month ago, all of them started shutting down by themselves quite often — sometimes even every day. In one of the rooms, I noticed the problem happens much less frequently when I disable motion detection, which makes me wonder if the camera is somehow moving too much or overheating. Still, disabling that feature is a real downside since it limits one of the main functions I use.

I’m not sure if this could be some kind of planned obsolescence, a known issue affecting other users, or just an isolated malfunction. It’s really disappointing to think I might need to replace all the devices at once — not only because of the cost and the short time of use, but also because I had to drill into the plaster ceiling to install the power cables. Replacing them would mean doing that work all over again.

Does anyone have any insights, similar experiences, or hope to share?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Please confirm more information about the reported phenomenon.

  1. Have you powered on the cameras with the original power adapter and cord, rather than the extension power cord?

  2. If the camera powers off automatically, how does it power on? For example, you need to unplug and replug the power adapter, or will the camera power on automatically, or via other methods?

  3. Are all cameras powered off at the same time?

Please note that the reported phenomenon is not a planned obsolescence.

Best Regards

Hi, and thank you for taking the time to look into my issue.

All four cameras are still using their original power adapters and cords. One of them (the second most affected) is plugged directly into a wall outlet, while the others are installed above a plaster ceiling and connected directly to the electrical line (phase).

When they shut down, they do not turn back on automatically. For the one connected to the outlet, I need to unplug and replug the adapter. For the others, which are not accessible, I have to turn the circuit breaker off and on again to get them working.

They don’t power off simultaneously — on the contrary, even though the issue started to appear across all of them within roughly the same month, each camera now shuts down at different times and with different frequencies.

Please let me know if there’s any additional information I can provide that might help.

Warm regards from Brazil.

Hi,
Take the camera that is plugged directly into a wall outlet as an example. Please try to install it in another house (with a different power system) and see if the same phenomenon occurs.
If yes, you may contact your retailer or the local support team to check if your camera is under warranty.
Best Regards
