Model: Tapo C410
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.3.3

Have a C410 with a formatted 512gb SD card, so set up to record clips direct to the card, not the cloud. The problem is that the camera only detects movement, sends notifications and records the associated video clip when I have the Tapo App open on my device viewing the live camera image. This means when the App isn't open the camera is useless.

Although I use the camera indoors to view outside with it up against a glass window, the issue cannot be due to that because when the App is open and I'm vviewing the live image the camera displays 'motion detected' popups and saves these in the 'playback & recording' section, so obviously it is capable of detecting motion through the glass. How can I correct this so that it records every time it detects motion? Thanks.

Hi,
To conserve power, battery-powered cameras typically remain in a low-power sleep state and can only detect events when awake. The camera can be awakened by actions within the app, such as viewing the camera's live feed, or by the PIR sensor.

1) When you view the camera in the Tapo app, the camera has been woken up, and then it will detect the event within the detection zone.

2) You can refer to the instructions below to see how the battery-powered camera can be woken up. When the camera is behind a window, the glass may prevent the PIR sensor from detecting changes in infrared radiation, leaving the camera unawakened and preventing the event from being detected.
What is the Wake-up Sensitivity of my battery camera/doorbell?

3) The Tapo C410 is an outdoor camera, and you can install it outside, which may help in your situation. Below are the installation instructions.

Best Regards
