I just purchased a TP-Link AC1900. I have NOT tqken it out of the box so it has not been fired up. If it does not support my needs, I intend to return it to Amazon. I had spent some time on the Internet trying to find out if this router supports DNSMASQ without finding any information on it.

It is my impression that the router has DD-WRT installed. Is this correct? If so, is full access provided for setting up FTP servers, etc? The version of DD-WRT that I was using with my (now dead) Linksys E3200 gave full access to setting up DNSMASQ and that is what I need.

Thanks for any information.

The Archer C9 AC1900 router comes with TP Link's own firmware from the factory. There are third party vendors at put other firmware such as DD-WRT on the routers and sell them. The C9 is at the "end of life" per the TP Link's web site https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-c9/. You will need to go to the DD-WRT web sites to see if certain features are supported in DD-WRT. I have used DD-WRT many years ago but now I am reluctant to do so as it is basically a hack by hackers and now more and more hackers attack routers as an entry point into your network.

@Chille

There is more than ONE TP-Link router that is AC1900. C80, A9, A8 and other models that are older and might be still available. All will ship with TP-Links standard f/w for the router.

I suggest you use the exact model number/name and check the DD-WRT site itself to see if it has f/w for that model (and some routers have VERSIONS as well that need to be matched). See https://dd-wrt.com/ for more info and/or use the forums there. I searched the download database for TP-Link and they have got none of the above models on the list but do have a C9 listed. Could check by posting on the forum I guess? They do have a C7 version with I think is now still being sold, but an AC1750 router.

@IrvSp Looking at the box, the AC1900 I have is an A9. The basic question is: Does this router support DNSMASQ? I need this feature to support my server and PXE booting from remote clients. If it does not support DNSMASQ, I cannot use the router and will have to return it to the vendor.

Thank you.

@Chille

Don't know, but if it isn't called out in the spec's, probably not.

DD-WRT does include it though, you might want to check in the forums there.
