You can use a TP-Link Range Extender to extend the range and coverage of the Wi-Fi provided by your Starlink Gateway. Here, you can find the base instructions on how to connect a Range Extender to your Starlink Router.

  1. Open the Tether App
  2. Tap the ‘+’ To Add a New Device.
  3. Tap on Range Extender
  4. Power On Your Range Extender - When the LED indicator is Solid Green, tap “Power Light is Solid On.
  5. Tap Join to Connect Your Phone to the Extender’s Setup Network Automatically
  6. Wait for the Tether App to find and connect to the Range Extender’s Network
  7. Enter a New Admin Password, and Tap Create

Note: This password is used to access the Range Extender’s settings and is separate from the password for your Wi-Fi.

Configure the Range Extender to Extend Your Starlink Gateway’s Wireless Networks

Your Range Extender will now Search for Nearby Networks to Extend and Display a List of Visible Networks to Extend.

To Extend Your 5GHz Starlink Network:

  1. Select the 5GHz Network from Your Starlink Gateway and Tap Next

If you cannot see your 5GHz network, move your Range Extender closer to your Starlink Gateway and Configure Your Extended Network Settings from the Tether App.

  1. Input the Wi-Fi Password for the Network and Tap Done

To Extend Your 2.4GHz Starlink Network:

    1. Select the 2.4GHz Network from Your Starlink Gateway and Tapo Next
    2. Input the Wi-Fi Password for the Network and Tap Done

Please Wait While Your Range Extender tests the connections between your extender and router.

Note: Starlink Routers Do Not Currently Support the 6GHz frequency; as a result, your Range Extender will only be able to communicate with your Router over the 2.4 and 5GHz Bands.

Confirm Your Settings and Choose a Location:

  1. Verify the Main Network Settings and Tap Next
  2. Confirm/Edit the Extenders Settings, Then Tap Next
  3. You will now be asked to choose an appropriate location for your extender.

For the best connection quality, please choose a location halfway between your Starlink Gateway and the area where you would like to extend your connection. The location should be open, with minimal obstructions or sources of interference nearby. Your Range Extender should list a strong connection.

  1. Once Placed, Tap “ Location Looks Good”
  2. Tap Done to Complete Setup

Your Range Extender will now extend the wireless connection of your Starlink Gateway. You may change the network name from the Tether App if you would like to differentiate your Range Extender Wi-Fi from your Gateway’s Wi-Fi when looking at a list of available networks.

I have two TL-WA801N (Access Point) set up as a range extenders. One  works fine and the other will cause my network to stop working. DHCP is turned off on both and they both have fixed IP addresses. They both point to the same SSID (locked in) on the router.

The diff is that the one that works is connected via wi-fi with its own power supply and the other gets its power via a POE adapter connected to an unmanaged switch connected to t he router.

I'm lost.
