@honestabe It does not have a log where you can see the data usage total, but you can log in with the Tether app. Go to clients, select the device, and on that menu it will show you the total data...

@MichaelJ Yes, you can certainly do that. It would work the same with any router. What will happen is when you connect the router will give you a private IP address, something like 192.168.0.100....
