Model: Tapo C217
Hardware Version: V6
Firmware Version: 1.2.1

I grabbed a pair of these to compare to the brand I already am over saturated with. Easy install, although the Power Plug doesn't seem too water proof. But could be in a manner I can't see. As a whole I'm really impressed with these little, creepy follows you silently cameras.

But I may have stumbled on a "Bug", having done Beta Testing with Tapo, where:

1. The most obvious discrepancy is that the when using the Viewpoint Preset settings after being set, the Cameras don't go to the spot where they were originally set to. Mostly dropping Vertically by 10~15 degrees for every setting. I have done the typical walkthrough TS and this is still happening.

1a. 032226. Now I'm no longer getting the view that I set or a Previous View from another button, with the Vertical View drop 10-15 degrees.

2. When Activating "Patrol" the camera does a full "360" Pan and Stops at the standard beginning point and stops.

3. Although I haven't intensely torn into these, standard operation seems to be there. Just needs some fine tuning. Another point pertaining to is its placement within the Tapo App and not being able to return to the Main Page making necessary to quit the App and reopen it.

4. Motion Sensing. Like I've mentioned I haven't really torn into these. But Motion Sensing seems to be limited as a whole. But a couple time I swear I have been picked up outside the "View" of the pickups. I've been thinking of how I could incorporate simple Motion Sensors to alert the camera of Motion outside this area. But I have yet to confirm that this is needed . . . yet.

There are many little tweaks that are a part of their operation that usually show up later in the game that are refreshing. Like a couple of times the cameras have shown up on my TVs via the Amazon FireTV 4K MAX stick without any setup. Surprised me! But with a couple of great features that overtake the ones that should be common that's leaving some missing or not completely finished. But I would be satisfied with the "Viewpoints" being fixed so I can continue working with them to discover other Pros and Cons. And I trust that in a short period of time, finessing of the product will happen.

But seriously, I'm contemplating on boxing up the system I have now and replacing it with these or their siblings. Especially with their application capabilities and price points!

UPDATE:

I've had more time with these units and had added an Update that got lost in a platform lockup. I plan on trying to reintegrate it soon.

  @FarmerBob

Hi,
Regarding the reported phenomenon:

1. If the camera's viewpoint drops vertically, you can check if rebooting the camera or tapping the Pan & Tilt Correct button helps. If so, please try to enable the Auto Reboot feature for better performance.

2. The Patrol feature on the camera's Live View > Pan & Tilt page can let the camera patrol vertically or horizontally once.

3. Typically, you can exit the camera's settings pages and find the cameras on the Tapo app > Cameras tab or on the Home tab > All Devices page.

4. If you are out of the detection zone but are detected, you may refer to the following instructions to troubleshoot: What should I do if my Tapo camera triggers false detection?

It's recommended to contact the technical support team for further assistance.

Best Regards

Thank You! for your reply and suggestions. I have already tried your suggestions, being basic TS101. Did find how to return to the App though. Some people (me) can be so dense . . . By obviously tapping on the picture and getting the Top Menu Bar. It's there on the Left <.

The only thing I can say about the "Viewpoints" is that there seems to be no data retention once set. Or the data gets skewed or corrupted. Even while still in the App things go wonky. So I would guess that wherever and or however the settings are stored within the App, there is a "Glitch!"

Also the "Patrol" feature is a waste when the camera slams the picture all the way up and zooms around. I normally thought that it would follow the set "Viewpoints" in a speed that could be adjusted. As in a real "Patrol" situation. And possibly once activated, record until stopped with settings to facilitate "practical operation".

Please advise as to what I can do to continue to help resolve this issue. And I will, which I thought I was doing, contact Tech Support.

Your Assistance is Greatly Appreciated . . .

Hi,
Regarding the viewpoint offset phenomenon, it's recommended to contact the technical support team for further assistance.

If you are using the Patrol feature on the camera's Live View > Pan & Tilt > Patrol page, tapping the Vertical Patrol or Horizontal Patrol button will only let the camera patrol vertically or horizontally once.

On some Tapo cameras, such as Tapo C225 and C520WS, you can also set up the patrol mode as instructed below to allow the Tapo camera to patrol between the marked positions.
How to set up Patrol Mode on Tapo cameras

Best Regards
