Model: Tapo C200
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have purchased a Tapo C 200 camera and a 128 sd card from Amazon.

The camera is working ok but it will not format the SD card and I get a message that there was a problem formatting it. I have tried formatting with the camera/app without success. To test the SD card I formatted it in my Canon camera and it worked fine, recording photos as normal. I formatted in the Canon camera again and tried it in the Tapo 200 without success. I tried the reset button but got the same results. It would appear the camera is faulty in respect of the SD formatting.

Don’t want to return it if possible. Any suggestions.

@Foxtrotter

Hello, what is the brand & model of the SD card? And how about its format type? A picture of the card would be great;

If the SD card is not formatting successfully, or it is not recognized, please check the below article to troubleshoot first:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2749/

Note: Tapo C200 supports a micro SD card with up to 128 GB capacity, which needs to be formatted on the Tapo Camera APP first.

You can try with another SD card if possible;

And ensure the camera firmware and APP firmware are latest.

May it help.

@Kevin_Z

Hi thanks for the information. I tried a few things and eventually managed to format a 32gb SD Card. The camera would just not accept the 128gb SD  which is probably faulty.

Are you able to give me a estimate on how long the 32gb will record, I only need 3 or 4 hours.

Thank you

@weefifer Thank you, will probably get. 32gb Card, not sure how to check if it’s fat32. According to their website I should get 96 hours of recording from a 32gb.

Tapo C200. Pan and Tilt. 1080p. Crystal Clear Image. Two-Way Audio. Night Vision. Motion Detection ... recording. Securely store up to 128 GB locally on a microSD card, equal to 384 hours (16 days) of footage ...

@billbond4

hi, yes, a 128gb card can be formatted on windows but only as exfat, it would need to be converted via another program. I ve just stuck with a sandisk 32gb and a kingston 64gb, both work fine.

@weefifer

I formatted my 128gb card in Windows, using the tool guiformat then I got the tapo camera app to format the card as it didn't recognise it and it said theres an error with my sd card.

I didn't think I would have to format the card using the tapo app but I had to

I gave up on the 128 and happy with 32gb which gives me 4/5 days of recording. I understand from previous posts that the Kingston 64gb works fine.
