  • DHCP Server won't provide dynamic IP addresses to end clients in some cases.

     (1) simply clicking Save on the Edit Network page will bring the DHCP server to work for a few hours.

     (2) reboot doesn't help, the issue doesn't exist with the router firmware 1.1.1.

  • Some clients are assigned the same IP address, causing they cannot access the internet.

Re: ER605 ER7206 v1 - DHCP Server May Fail With 1.2.0 and 1.2.1 Firmware.

Just encountered this issue. Haven't done much just noticed few devices with the same ip. Upgraded to 1.2.1 for 7206v1 a few days ago. Decided to go back to 1.1.1 as haven't yet upgraded the controller - still on 4.4.6. Scared of extra bugs on the beta and version 5 removed speed test as well. Feel still unstable with all the reports of little issues

  @Fae

Updated my ER7206 to the Sept 18th beta, seeing absolutely insane CPU utilisation with the router just idle and no traffic - both cores spiking to 100% constantly, graph all over the place.

Reverted back to Sept 2nd build and CPU graph returns to normal and no crazy utilisation

Havent bothered flashing my ER605 v1 and v2 units with the most recent beta to see if the problem happens there too

I see the same thing on ER605v1 and V2, as well as ER7206, extremely slow VPN and high CPU so I have to roll back to previous version.

This is just so strange. Clearly 1.2.0 and 1.2.1 are not fit for purpose and should be pulled. But I am also wondering how can one create a bug in DHCP? It is like fundamental. Doesn't  engineering team write any automated tests? I was waiting for several months before upgrading and as soon as I did I got an issue. I can not recommend the stack to anyone giving recent stream of bugs and version 5 is still being plagued with issues. I really would like to love the platform as my initial reaction was very positive despite some minor yet annoying bugs.

I'm just going to flash my 7206 and 605 v1 back to the early January 1.1.1 beta.

Everything worked, was super stable, and the january beta added stealth port fix.  I've tried every beta and full release since then and they all have significant issues of one kind or another.

The CPU utilization may raise a bit but shouldn't spike to as high as 100%.

Behold, the absolute insanity of the Sep 18th beta!

Exact same config, network structure and router not doing much other than serving my laptop

Sep 2nd build CPU graph......

Sep 18th build CPU graph......

I have sent off my router config to support, thanks for raising the ticket.  thought it would be good to visualise the issue here as well

Re: ER605 ER7206 v1 - DHCP Server May Fail With 1.2.0 and 1.2.1 Firmware. [Updated on Sep. 19th 2022]

@GRL I have read already two posts from you mentioning cpu spike and not working vpn, tp-link support warned me about cpu spikes and performance issues which occure with this beta, but in no way I can confirm any of it. My cpu is used less than it was before, same goes for memory and there are no spikes despite using it fully including vpn:

here as example with v1.2.1 on one site where it is used a lot:

and here another er605v1 on a network with just one client which is 90% fully unused, also v1.2.1:

My question would be, how to reproduce your issue?

Do you use any cpu heavy tasks like encrypted vpn (ipsec/openvpn)? er605v1 is not really a good device for vpn encryption as well as it heats up and as addition it uses a lot cpu so that other router functions are affected, that all was known prior to even 1.2.1, that is why I fail for now to understand what exactly causes cpu spikes. Can you please SSH to your router run top (that is something like task manager on windows). Watch processes and check which process spikes with your config.
