Model: Tapo C225
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.24

Hi,

After testing the C320WS which had horrible night image quality compared to my old C200, I went and bought TAPO C225 thinking the issues might be something related to the model. C225 was better then the C320WS, however compared to my older C200 it still has some issues with the image quality.

I have tried to adjust all sort of settings I could find, but it just won't appear as "good" as the C200. Regardless if I choose the visible IR (near or far distance), or IR/starlight, the issue is still there. It is kind of blurry, and in many scenarios the lightning is a bit off (too much).

In my mind, a newer camera with a higher resolution and a much higher price tag, should also mean equal or better quality when operating within same conditions, right?

Is there anything that can be done? Any special settings I haven't yet found, or updates? Or is this a hardware issue?

Not sure whether to keep it, or return this one as well sad

  @Mexpa

Hi,
Please help confirm the following information about this issue, and I'll escalate the case to the tech team for further analysis if needed.
1) When you select Night Mode on the Tapo C225, please send me a picture of the camera's Device Settings>Video & Display page and a picture of the Night Mode Settings page.
2) What Video Quality have you selected on the Tapo C200?
Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

1) Video & Display page

Night Mode Settings page

I have tried to combine each of the available options (both IR and Starlight) and compare the images. The "close" distance is making the image even more blurry.

2) 1080p is selected on the tapo C200.

Hi @Mexpa , have you solved the quality problem of the C225 camera? I'm considering purchasing a camera and was interested in this model.

Thank you

@Solla-topee Is the problem presented by @Mexpa  a problem with that particular camera because it is defective from the factory or with the all C225 model?

  @Anonymous4Ever

Hi,

Based on the specification parameters displayed on the official website and our test, the Tapo C225 V1 will have better video resolution in day mode than the C200 V3, and the video quality of the C225 is not much different from the C200 in night mode. The previous case did not locate the specific cause. I think it is more likely that there is a problem with the specific device.

Best Regards

  @Mexpa

I got the same problem:

Compared to my Tapo C200, the C225 model appears to be blurry. I have tried all possible settings. Whether "2K QHD" or "720P" is selected doesn't matter; the image looks exactly the same at both settings, even at the strongest zoom. I purchased the camera yesterday, and the hardware version is V1. Does anyone have news about this issue?
