My Tapo C225 camera keeps going off line, every day, making it pretty useless for home security.

The network is stable.  The WiFi (mesh network) pod is just 2 meters away!

The blue light is always flashing when it has a silicon sezure.

I have to flip the power to reset it every time, and no I don't want to have to reset the thing every time this happens!

There isn't a firmware update available, having already checked in the app.

This is really getting on my £<<"*>,^ />/@ !!! 😊

Hi,
Typically, you can refer to the instructions below to troubleshoot the offline issue.
What should I do if my Tapo smart device keeps losing connection or going Offline?
 

1. Please send us the results after you follow the above tips to troubleshoot.
2. How many Wi-Fi pods do you have in your home network? Do they use the same SSID & password? 
3. Can you connect the camera to an AP/router with a different Wi-Fi name and check if the camera will work fine? I'm afraid the camera roams between the Wi-Fi pods since they use the same Wi-Fi settings, and then the disconnect issue occurs.

  @Solla-topee  I believe that I've fixed the issue by setting connection preferences for each IOT device, from the DECO management Android app, to a preferred node on the mesh network, thus to prevent the IOT device from roaming.  Whilst other IOT devices in the network didn't experience the same issue as the C225 camera, it seems to have fixed the C225 camera going off line issue. This can be set by going into the DECO app in Android, selecting a specific mesh network node, to which an IOT device is connected, then selecting the IOT device. then set 'connection preference', and selecting a specific preferred connection node i.e. the closest one to the mesh wife network node.

I also set a fixed ip address for the camera too.

I haven't had any issues with the C225 camera going off line since.

I would point out however, that a person who isn't technology savy/inclined, would have an issue with doing this: it shouldn't be necessary, so it doesn't resolve the underlying issue with the TAPO C225 camera device.

  @Melon-Head i had the same issue all my network devices at home in one mesh compatibility and all of them are tp link brand with wifi 6 certified: AX3000 4-Stream Wi-Fi 6  Router Extenders: RE600x and 605x  and the tapo c225 wi fi 6 advirtised i found the solution by disabling the smart connect feature in the main router and seperate 2.4 and 5Ghz wi fi names and connect my camera straight over 2.4Ghz and it never lost connection again. What means this? I can't get them work under one wifi name which one of the feature of wi fi six in one mesh. I think TP link either aren't aware of how their devices work buggy or they pretend they don't know what is going on. Those extenders are all in one mesh combility list yet they can't communicate without going buggy like dropping whats app calls during talk. it's a malfunction engineering.

For the reported issue, if you are willing to further troubleshoot, please confirm:
    1. The model number, hardware, and firmware version of the AX300 router.
    2. The hardware and firmware version of your range extenders.
    3. Please describe your network diagram in detail, such as which range extender connects to the router/RE, the camera connects to which RE/router, etc.
    4. Send me(@Solla-topee) the camera's MAC address via a private message.

The hardware and firmware version of the range extender: DECO XE75 wifi node: 1.2.13 Build 20240927 Rel. 49388.  This uses ip address reservation: the TAPO c225 (2.0  firmware 1.0.11 - no updates available) ip address has been changed to fixed but this hasn't fixed the problem of the camera going off line.

 

Network diagram in detail, such as which range extender connects to the router/RE, the camera connects to which RE/router, etc. 
TAPO C225 ---> DECO XE75 firmware 1.2.13 --->

   main wifi node DECO XE75 firmware 1.2.13 --->  Router BT Hub

 

Is it possible to roll back the firmware of the C225 camera? Perhaps the firmware revision 1.0.11 is duff and hasn't been properly system tested.

I use a mesh network, using TPLINK DECO XE75 nodes, all of them, 5 in all! I haven't experienced a disconnect/roaming problem with any of the other TAPO hardware products, so clearly there is an fault with the C225 device. It's not acceptable to resign, saying well, that's how it behaves. Someone at TPLINK has mistakes!

... yes, the same SSID and password: it's a mesh network, using TPLINK's very own XE75 wifi hardware. Well well, someone didn't do adequate system testing 🤔😂😂😂😂

update: the C225 v2 camera is now going offline after an even shorter time, in a matter of minutes, consistently!!!  

If TPLINK can't resolve this, I will leave a very daming review on Amazon, from where I bought this lousy hardware!  

I'm NOT impressed at all!!!

I have wasted too much time on this.  Please get your developers to pull their finger out of where the sun doesn't shine and fix it!!!

1. Tapo cameras do not support downgrading the firmware version.

 

2. You can refer to the instructions below to adjust settings on the Deco and check if they are helpful.

Dear Melon-Head,

 

I appreciate your description what you did - and that confirmed that I may not be the only one who is facing C225 dropping off on a daily basis. It seems that it happens to me once a day, and sometimes it recovers itself as I have configured the C225 to make a daily reboot during the night. But not absolutely sure...

 

My context:

* One new C225 - less than a one month old, firmware up-to-date

* A system of TP-Link Deco X60 Mesh Wifi - with five base stations (one primary X60 as a router to LAN with 4 satellite X60 units as wireless "bridges")

* Signal strength is "phenomenal" as the X60 units are in a small are in the end

* Rebooting the whole X60 mesh system does not help

* There are no other devices in the network experiencing this (TV, music streamers, dishwasher, computers, iPhones, and up 10 Tapo T115 WIFI smart plugs)

 

I like your idea of selecting a "preferred base station" - as if that resolves the issue, it should direct the TP-Link team to indeed discover operation in a Mesh network. Starting from the Mesh systems made by TP-Link (Deco series). Unfortunately with my Deco X60 app, there is no way to lock the device into a one mesh station. That features does not exist in the X60 range, but it does have a selection of "label is as IoT" device.

 

So what I did,

* I labeled the C225 as an IoT device in the Deco App for X60

* I switched off a setting "Mesh technology" (that I assume somehow prevents the X60 base stations not to seamlessly roam between X60 base stations)

 

Now I keep my fingers crossed that this helps... I'll keep this community posted. Interesting indeed is that I have about 10 Tapo T115 smart plugs in the same network, and within a one month, none of them has become unresponsive in the Tapo App or disappearing in the Deco App.
