I have two Tapo cameras, one C210 cameras (hardware version 2, firmware 1.4.5) and one C230 camera (hardware version 1, firmware 1.3.1). I’m frequently unable to view the live feed from either camera unless I manually reboot one of them via the app. It doesn’t matter which camera I reboot, once one comes back online, the live view works again for all cameras.

 

During this issue, I continue to receive notifications and can see activity logs, but I’m unable to view footage or access live view. The cameras still appear as "connected" in the app, but the live stream won't load until a reboot is performed.

 

I've scheduled daily reboots for both cameras, but this hasn't resolved the problem. The issue occurs randomly, yet it's becoming increasingly frequent it happened twice within the past 20 minutes.

 

This problem only started after adding the second camera; I never experienced it when I was using just the C210. Both cameras are set to auto-update and are running the latest firmware. I've already tried reinstalling the app, removing and re-adding the cameras, but the issue persists.

 

I also have other Tapo smart devices, such as smart switches, which work without any problems. Additionally, I use Arlo and Eufy cameras on the same network, and they have no connectivity or live view issues.

 

At this point, I'm not sure what else I can do to troubleshoot the problem.

Please confirm the following information for the reported issue.
  1. Does the issue occur on all three cameras simultaneously?  


  2. What's the model number and OS version of your phone? What's the Tapo app version?


  3. Have you inserted SD cards into the cameras to store video recordings? If so, have you set the camera to record video continuously? You can try to set the camera to record detection video clips only and check if it helps with this issue.

  @Solla-topee Sorry, I made a mistake in my post. I’ve edited it now. I only have two cameras in total: one C210 and one C230.

 

1. Does the issue occur on all three cameras simultaneously? 

Yes, the issue occurs on both cameras. The live view will not load, just jave the load icon for awhile then fails and displays an error message like “Try again” or “Refresh”, I can’t remember the exact wording.

 

 2. What's the model number and OS version of your phone? What's the Tapo app version?

I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with Tapo app version 3.10.513. The same issue also happens on my wife’s phone at the same time. Restarting one of the cameras resolves the issue for both of us, so we don’t each need to reboot it, if I restart it, it works for her too. She also has a samsung think its ss23+.


3. Have you inserted SD cards into the cameras to store video recordings? If so, have you set the camera to record video continuously? You can try to set the camera to record detection video clips only and check if it helps with this issue.

Yes, both cameras have SD cards installed. I'm not sure where the setting is to toggle continuous recording. Local recording is enabled, and detection is turned on for motion, person, and crying.

 

I’ve removed both cameras from my Tapo account again, then re-added them on a different Wi-Fi network (from two different routers). Since then, the issue hasn't occurred again, except that I had to restart the C210 once to get live view working again straight after i readded it. It’s only been a little over 24 hours.

Hi,
On the Tapo app > camera's Device Settings > Storage & Recording > Recording Schedule page, you can set the camera to record detection videos only. If the problem remains, you can change this setting for a try.

Hi,
On the camera's Device Settings > Video & Display > Video Quality page, please try to select a lower video quality and then check if the problem disappears.

The issue happened again, but only with the C210 camera. Rebooting the camera through the app fixed the problem.

I was still able to live view the other cameras connected to a different Wi-Fi networks.

I've also set the video quality lower on this camera.

In this situation, please refer to the following instructions to collect the log files for further analysis.
  1. Uninstall the Tapo app on your phone, and refer to the link to download and install the Tapo Trial app on your phone.

  2. Refer to the instructions below to collect the camera log.
      How to get the log of Tapo Camera

  3. When the problem happens, please record the date, time, and your time zone.

  @Solla-topee I have install the trail app and turned on diagnose logs. 

I also have a screen recording of the issue I can't I support ticket the same time I created this post and they asked for it.

Since you have contacted our tech support via email, if the problem happens again on the Tapo Trail app(version:3.11.112), it's recommended to collect the app log refer to the instructions in the email, collect the camera log, record the date & time when the issue happens, and send them to our tech team via email for further analysis.
