Stuttering live view and recordings on Tapo C520WS and C500
Hello! Recently bought Tapo C520WS (V2 firmware 1.1.1) to add to my other cameras ( C500 and and C510) Somehow I managed to connect it to WiFi coz it didn't see my home wifi network (Tp-Link Archer AX23 router). Trick with Ethernet cable worked. But after some time it begun to stutter in liveview and while viewing recordings from SD card. And my other camera (C500 v.1 firmware 1.3.5) begun to stutter too, but not that much and clears faster. While I'm writing this post C500 working kinda fine with little stutfer and c520ws is a mess. I have gigabit fiber line at home and prior to this it worked fine. Right now it shows -47 RSSI@C520WS and -64 RSSI@C500. C510 isn't connected right now. I kinda suspect maybe IoT network on my router to blame. I decided to try migrating all my cameras and tapo plugs to separate 2.4GHz IoT network. Your help is appreciated. Thank you

Hi,
You can try enabling the separate 2.4GHz IoT network on your router and connecting the Tapo devices to it, then check if the Tapo devices work fine.
If the problem persists, please confirm the following information.
1. Your network diagram.
2. The LED status and the RSSI value on the Tapo C520WS and Tapo C500.
3. Please send us a video showing the reported shutter issue. You can upload the video to your cloud server (such as Google Drive), generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.
Best Regards

@Solla-topee Hello!
1. Both cameras are on separate IoT network now. I want to switch them back to main network and see what happens. I just pray C520WS will find WiFi, otherwise I'll have to take it off to connect it to the router via lan cable. But I'll be there at weekend.
2. At evening both cameras worked much better, and in the morning C520WS is a mess again. I'll try to screen grab video on my phone, coz in app recording doesn't record much. C520WS is skipping footage, 5-10 seconds of live stream is getting skipped. C500 is working much smoother right now, Only 1-2 seconds of live footage is getting skipped. Same goes for viewing records.
3. C500 shows - 63 RSSI rightnow, C520WS shows -53 RSSI. Can't check led lights, coz I'm not there right now.
4. One more thing. C500 in app health check shows very high stream jitter. Yesterday it was >1400ms, right now "just" 308 ms, so as I said camera works much smoother. Here are screenshots https://photos.app.goo.gl/txdn9md9vf5N74c17

Hi,
1. If the cameras perform better when connected to the IoT network, it's recommended that they keep the connection for better performance.
If the Tapo C520WS can connect to the 2.4G IoT network but can't find the main Wi-Fi network, it's recommended to check the settings on the main Wi-Fi network, such as don't hide SSID, ensure the Wi-Fi channel is within 1-11, etc.
2. On the Tapo app > Camera's Device Settings > Reboot Camera page, please enable the Auto Reboot feature and then check if the cameras will work fine.
If you can't record the video showing the issue manually in the Tapo app, you can use the phone's Screen Record feature to record the video showing the shutter issue for analysis.
3. What app are you using to check the health of the Tapo cameras?
Best Regards

1. They are now on separate IoT network enabled on TP - Link Archer AX23 router. And I suspect it can be not implemented right. TP Link didn't release new firmware for router since 2023;
2. Regarding connection of C520WS V2 to Wi Fi, you can kindly look at other thread where this problem is wildly discussed and you as TP Link can't figure out how to fix it as of now;
3. As you could see at screenshots provided, I used TP Link tapo app on Android to check health of TP Link Tapo C500 camera;
4. As of now C520WS is just a disaster. It worked perfectly for 3 days and now it's just a stuttering mess. C500 did start to work better without any changes;
5. All my previous cameras (C500 and C510W) and C520WS are on auto reboot. Reboot doesn't do anything to fix this. I suspect there could be also problem with cloud servers;
6. I'll be at camera's location on weekend, I'll try to disable IoT network, reconnect to main WiFi network, but before I'll reconnect my Tapo C510W camera to check if it is also affected. C500 and C510W worked perfectly fine for 2 years with this router. Also I checked live view on 3 different devices connected to different WiFi/LTE. So I highly suspect it actually be problem with IoT network implementation on AX23.

Hi,
1. The reasons for the camera being unable to find Wi-Fi networks can vary depending on different usage scenarios. Based on the information you've provided, the Tapo C520WS has no issues connecting to Wi-Fi itself. Therefore, I suspect that the problem may lie with the WiFi network settings. It's recommended to check the relevant Wi-Fi configuration on your router if the camera can't find the Wi-Fi network to connect.
2. The screenshots you previously sent cannot be found in the Tapo app. Did you see the screenshots in the Tether app instead?
3. You can connect the camera to the router's main Wi-Fi network to have a test. To better analyze your issue, please provide the videos showing the stuttering problem at your convenience.
4. When you refer to a "separate IoT network," are you talking about the router's guest network?

1. C520WS V2 has a problem connecting to Wi-Fi. I own different TAPO devices such as cameras, smart plugs and light bulbs. All of them connected to my WiFi networks without any struggle. Only device I and as I see plenty of other people, had a problem connecting to WIFi is C520WS v2;
2. Screenshots are taken from Tp-Link Tapo app from Android Play market. Version 3.12.108. Device Health function available for C500 camera. Didn't check C510W and definitely not available for C520WS yet. Here is today diagnostic from C500 Health Check ;
3. I'll check it on weekend when I'll be there. I'll also connect C510 camera to both IoT network and main WiFi network to check how it works;
4. No, I mean IoT network which is enabled from router settings. Guest network is totally different :)

Hi,
Thank you for your information and attempt. I'll wait for your test result on the weekend. And hope you can provide the following information regarding the issue.
1. Please provide the videos showing the stuttering problem. You can upload the video to your cloud server (such as Google Drive), generate a download link, and send it to me (@Solla-topee) via a private message.
2. Please check if the stuttering problem occurs only when your phone is not connected to the Archer router's Wi-Fi, or if it happens even when your phone and the camera are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
For the installation issue with the Tapo C520WS V2, this instruction may help you: What to do if my Tapo C520WS V2 can't find the router's Wi-Fi during configuration?
