Hi, 

I bought the D230S1 in October 2024, and shortly after noticed that it regularly went "off line". At first I played around with placement of the hub and wifi nodes thinking it was due to connection issues. But this past summer, it worked flawlessly. Now that the temperatures have been dropping again, I'm noticing (and verified by constant checking) that when the outside temperature is 15 degrees C, the doorbell works. Temperature drops to 14 degrees C, then the doorbell goes regularly off line. Temperature goes below 14 degrees C, doorbell is permanently offline until temperature rises above 14 degrees again.

Once I noticed this, I tested this in the climate room at my work to verify.

Is there a reason for this? As this would mean that de doorbell is useless for more than 6 months per year.

Or if there is a setting which I need to change to make the doorbell functional again, I would be very grateful.

For the reported offline phenomenon, please confirm the following information.


  1. Is the Tapo hub connected to your router by an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi? How far is the router from the hub, and what's the distance between the hub and the doorbell camera?
  2. Is the camera installed outdoors and the hub indoors?
  3. When the doorbell camera is offline in the Tapo app, please press the doorbell on the camera, and check how long it takes for the hub to ring.
  4. The instructions below are the steps to collect the camera log. After inserting an SD card into the Tapo hub, please refer to the same steps to collect the hub log for further analysis.

Tapo Hub is connected by WiFi, straightline distance between hub and router is approximately 9 meters, no walls.
Distance between doorbel camera and hub is approximately 1.5 meters with a door/window in between

  2. Is the camera installed outdoors and the hub indoors?

Camera is outdoors (front door camera/bell) and the hub inside. Normally no problems with connecting as long as temperatures are above 14 degrees C

  3. When the doorbell camera is offline in the Tapo app, please press the doorbell on the camera, and check how long it takes for the hub to ring.

If the doorbell camera is offline, pressing the doorbell does nothing. If I bring the camera indoors and allow it to warm up again, then it reacts immediately. But then it also comes back on line.

  4. The instructions below are the steps to collect the camera log. After inserting an SD card into the Tapo hub, please refer to the same steps to collect the hub log for further analysis.

Diagnostics has been turned on on the hub, couldn't find the setting on the D230S1. Night temperatures are expected to drop to 13 degrees on Sunday night. Will update as soon as the doorbell goes off line again.
