Camera needs a function to turn off blue lights
Hello,
I am experiencing an issue with a Tapo camera related to Wi-Fi instability and LED behavior.
The camera is installed in a corner of the house where the Wi-Fi signal can occasionally be weak. When the signal drops or becomes unstable, the camera appears to lose connection and the status LED starts blinking blue, indicating that it is searching for or trying to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network. After some time, the connection usually recovers automatically, but this behavior occurs repeatedly.
The main problem is not the temporary loss of connectivity itself, but the fact that the blue blinking LED is re-enabled during this state, even if the LED has been manually disabled in the app. I am using this camera as a baby monitor, and the blinking blue light during the night is bright enough to wake up my child.
From a usability standpoint, it would be very helpful to have an option to completely disable the status LED at all times, including during Wi-Fi disconnections, reconnection attempts, or error states. Ideally, the LED setting should be persistent and not overridden by network-related events.
This feature would be especially important for users who rely on Tapo cameras in low-light or sleep-sensitive environments (e.g., baby monitoring).
Additionally, I would like to ask for clarification regarding a possible workaround. Would covering the blue status LED with tape (e.g. black electrical tape) affect the infrared illumination used for night vision?
I am specifically referring to the built-in low-power infrared LEDs (not the high-power IR illumination), which I actively use for night monitoring. I want to make sure that physically covering the blue status LED would not interfere with the infrared light output or night vision performance.
Thank you for your consideration.
