Router overloading few days after installation
When i set up my first camera i updated it and everything seemed fine and dandy. couple of days later my landlord tells me that the internet provider called and said the router is overloaded. I suspected the camera but didn't find much on the internet about the camera being a problem but i lowered the quality just in case. It seemed to be okay and back to normal so i forgot the topic completely.
Now i got another one of those and the same thing happened, few days after setup landlord lost connection to internet and was notified that the router overloaded. What seems to be the problem exactly?

Hi,
The amount of data/bandwidth your camera consumes depends mainly on the video resolution and how long you stream live video or upload clips to the cloud. Your camera's daily data usage varies. For example, if you don't subscribe to the Tapo Care service to store detection video clips on our cloud server and only view the camera's live feed occasionally, this won't consume much data/bandwidth.
Note: Streaming the camera's live feed on the local network won't use the internet data.
If the router to which the camera is connected has a traffic monitoring function that displays real-time bandwidth usage for each device. You might be able to use this function to determine which device is using the most bandwidth.

Thank you for the answer but this is probably not it. The overloading happens and then disappears without me doing anything special with it. I am not subscribed to anything, they don't save anything in the cloud or anywhere except the sd card. It just now happened again that the service provider called and said the router is overloaded, I know it will fade but since in the long run it is not good for the router and shouldn't be normal if the cameras are widely used. I can't exactly get the data from the router since it's not mine but the only change has been the cameras since the overloads started. Also we didn't have many other devices connected to the network while the overloads have happened. If one camera already managed to overload it then now that I have 2 of them I and my landlord are kind of concerned since even the internet provider warns us about it breaking.
If I do manage to get any logs of the traffic I wouldn't know what to look for.

Hi,
When you mention that the "router is overloaded," are you referring to the router's actual traffic usage exceeding the bandwidth you subscribed to with your ISP? Or are you referring to other symptoms, such as the router suddenly losing its internet connection and requiring a restart to recover, or perhaps the router simply having too many connected devices?
Do you frequently receive the "router is overloaded" notice? For instance, does it appear daily or weekly? If you frequently receive the notice, you might try temporarily turning off the cameras to see if that makes a difference.

I told my landlord to ask more information about it next time, if they can access the logs and give us some ip addresses or something at least. The provider just usually calls them and last time said something like it is overloading and it is a potential threat that can break something in the system. 🤷🏼♀️ Since my landlord is not that technical, she doesn't know what to ask exactly so haven't got more information at the moment.
It doesn't happen often, probably not even once a month, once in 4-6 months maybe? just guessing. As far as i remember and know it has happened 3 times now.

Hi,
A camera is essentially just a client device, similar to a phone or laptop. It’s generally unlikely to cause a network system crash or break something in the system.
Previously, I assumed that by “router is overloaded,” you meant the actual traffic being used exceeds the data volume subscribed from the ISP. In that case, it would make sense to check whether the camera has a Tapo Care subscription. However, based on your latest feedback, it seems the “overload” you’re observing is likely not related to bandwidth/data usage.
For the phenomenon you reported, it's suggested that you first clarify what “overload” specifically refers to and check whether any logs, messages, or other information indicate the issue is related to the camera.
