When I'm at home (connected through my wifi) plaback of my camera videos is perfect.

 

When I'm outside my wifi video is awful. Often they won't play at all, telling me my connection is unstable, and sometimes they do play but very jerkily. When answering the doorbell it's very jerky and hit-and-miss - the last time I couldn't hear the person but the could hear me.

 

My wifi signal strength is good, around -45, and I've run the wifi test and it says it's all good.

 

What can I do?

Hi,
You can refer to Case 3 in the below instructions to troubleshoot.
What should I do if I can't view the Tapo&Kasa camera?

If the problem remains, please help confirm:
1) The test results of the above troubleshooting steps.
2) Can you share a video showing the problem on the Tapo app?

Thanks for the reply.

 

I've been through those checks and this is what I've found

 

- signal strength of the hub is -43. I plugged a range extender in next to it and the signal was up to -4 but the issue remained

 

- no appreciable network lag. The longest was around 70 milliseconds but there were loads of pings of 3 or 4 milliseconds.

 

- the same issue occurs on a different mobile device that's on a different network.

 

Tomorrow I'm visiting someone who has a superfast broadband connection so I'll try it from their place and report the findings back here.

 

I've tried uploading a video to this post but it fails. Any suggestions how to share it?
