Moderator Note:
1. The availability of EasyMesh in AP Mode may vary by region even for the same model. Please check your local website for more information.
2. The above list might not include all models and hardware versions. It is recommended to keep watching the firmware releases for your router, as all the newly supported features will be listed in the patch notes if/when it is added to your version.
User Scenarios:
Some users would prefer to, or are limited by their devices to, have their main modem router acting as the gateway and DHCP server in the network, which requires using the TP-Link Wi-Fi router in AP (Access Point) Mode to avoid the double-NAT issue. However, they also wish to utilize the EasyMesh feature of the TP-Link Wi-Fi router to create a mesh network with other EasyMesh routers or extenders.
The topology is roughly as follows (Topo 1):

Or as this one (Topo 2):

Note: In this topo, both the EasyMesh Wi-Fi router and the satellite router/extender must support EasyMesh Ethernet Backhaul.
You may also connect the EasyMesh Wi-Fi routers like below, it will also work (Topo 3):

Note: In this topo, the EasyMesh Wi-Fi router and the satellite router/extender must also support EasyMesh Ethernet Backhaul.

I have a setup like in the following picture with the Gateway being an AVM Fritzbox and the Wi-Fi router being TP-Link Archer C80 (v1). The routers are in AP mode (and I need to run them in AP mode to get access to devices in my whole network) and I would like to enable EasyMesh in AP mode including Ethernet backhaul.
While the C80 seems to support EasyMesh, it does only show up on my C80 v1 (!) when it is set to Router Mode. It has been mentioned in this thread that EasyMesh for AP mode might come with upcoming firmware versions... I have upgraded to the latest one for HW Revision v1 (Archer C80(EU)_V1_1.13.15 Build 240812).
Am I doing s.th. wrong and the C80 v1 is capable of EasyMesh in AP mode with Ethernet backhaul? If so, how would I set this up?
Or is the C80 v1 with the latest firmware not (yet) capable of that? If so, when will the firmware be upgraded (as a user here apparently has managed this setup with HW Revision v2.2)?

Hi,
For the feature "EasyMesh Is Available When Wi-Fi Routers Work in AP Mode as A Controller" you need firmware version 1.14.0 or higher on the Archer C80.
TP-Link hasn't officially released a firmware 1.14.x for the Archer C80 V1 yet.
A friend of mine needed to run an Archer C80 V1 with EasyMesh in AP mode as well and so I just updated it for him using the firmware 1.14 that has already been released for the Archer C64 V1.

Hi
wow... thanks a lot for the quick reply.
To make sure that I get this right: are you saying that I could happily (manually, obviously) download and install a 1.14 firmware for a C64 v1 on my C80 v1 and that will work w/o issues or degradations while at the same time enabling EasyMesh in AP mode?
That would be damn cool, but would raise the question why this is not released officially by TP-Link, then...?!?

I wouldn't know why TP-Link is holding back the release for the remaining models.
But I remember after firmware 1.14 was released a number of users reported their routers freezing up. I am not sure if this has been completely solved for everyone by now.
And once updated to a major new firmware version the routers cannot be downgraded to a lower major version. (like 1.14.x to 1.13.x)

thanks again for the quick reply...
... at same time, this sounds a bit frightening (choosing between either keeping my two C80s as separate access points with separate SSIDs resulting in iPhones sticking with one AP for way tooooo long or risking completely frozen AP and, thus, dysfunctional network... I would definitely avoid the latter).
might need to address the TP Link support... maybe there is an update regarding a new firmware or other solutions.

Hello @moeb98
The firmware releasing process for different models and hardwares very. Some gets the new features slower than others.
As far as I can confirm, the new official 1.14.x version for Archer C80 V1 will be available soon. You may check the new firmware on your router's web GUI or through the Tether App regularly.
