Early Access Pre-release Firmware for Archer AX80 Supports EasyMesh in AP Mode, DoH/DoT, ECO Mode, and More

Hello Everyone,
We're thrilled to announce the release of the pre-release firmware for Archer AX80 V1. This firmware update introduces several exciting new functions and improvements to enhance your experience, including DoH/DoT, EasyMesh in AP mode, Satellite Router Management, ECO Mode, etc. We encourage you to try out this version of firmware and take advantage of the following features. Your feedback and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
New Features and Modifications:
1. Added Ethernet Backhaul for EasyMesh.
2. Added EasyMesh feature in AP mode.
3. Enhanced EasyMesh Satellite Router Management via satellite router web interface.
4. Added EasyMesh Network Topology to gain a clear understanding of your EasyMesh network's structure.

5. Added ECO mode on Advanced > System > ECO Mode page.
When working in Power-Saving Mode or Ultra Power-Saving Mode, your router reduces power consumption to conserve energy. Please note that this also results in a reduction in network speed and coverage.
6. Added IoT Network.
7. Enhanced Wi-Fi Schedule to enjoy more flexibility by setting separate schedules for 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands.
8. Added isolation of Guest Network and Main Network in AP mode.
9. Added support for VPN Client.
10. Added support for WireGuard.
11. Added OpenVPN Server TAP Mode. Introducing TAP Mode in OpenVPN Server for AX55 V1 Router
Note: It requires your OpenVPN Client supporting TAP Mode as well, or you will not be able to connect to the VPN Server successfully
12. Added new functions to the Tether App: EasyMesh, OpenVPN Server/Client, ECO Mode, Wireless Schedule, Guest Portal Network
Note: Please use the new Tether App to experience those new features: New UI for 11AX Routers on Tether App 4.3 version is Ready for Trial
13. Added User Experience Improvement Program (UEIP).
Please participate in our UEIP during the Quick Setup process, or enable/disable it later on the Advanced > System > About page. Your feedback will help us enhance the product.
14. Optimized the L2TP/IPsec VPN performance.
15. Enhanced USB sharing performance.
16. Fixed the issue that the Tether App displays OneMesh instead of EasyMesh when adding EasyMesh agents.
17. Optimized the overall system stability and performance.

Yes, who would have said and guessed?
But as you know, I have two other AX73 devices and they have no problems with the dark theme, so it remains for your engineers to investigate and perhaps fix that bug for the next firmware release.
Also @RobPham you are also my hero today, because this problem has been bothering me for four days!

Hi @Kevin_Z,
I am currently using the following setup:
Main Router (Controller): Archer AX80(EU) V1 – Firmware 1.3.1 Build 20250718 (Pre-release)
EasyMesh Node 1 (Ethernet backhaul): Archer AX72(EU) V1 – Firmware 1.2.6 Build 20240619
EasyMesh Node 2 (Wireless backhaul): Archer AX72(EU) V1 – Firmware 1.2.6 Build 20240619
Issue:
When the AX72 units are added as EasyMesh nodes, the backhaul link speed/throughput is correct immediately after adding/rebooting:
Ethernet backhaul: 1 Gbps Full Duplex
Wireless backhaul: Expected full-speed throughput
However, after a short period (5–15 minutes for wired, sometimes longer for wireless), the backhaul drops and remains degraded until reboot:
Ethernet backhaul: drops to 100 Mbps Full Duplex and stays there
Wireless backhaul: throughput drops significantly and remains below 100 Mbps
This does not happen when the AX72 (wired) is set to Access Point mode, where the Ethernet uplink remains stable at 1 Gbps.
This has happened since firmware 1.1.x and 1.3.1 did not fix it. At least I can now reboot my AX72 satelite routers remotely to temporarily get 1 Gbps though
It seems this is related to EasyMesh link negotiation/fallback logic in the AX72 firmware. Could you please provide a beta or test firmware for the Archer AX72(EU) V1 that addresses this issue for both wired and wireless backhaul? I am happy to provide before/after screenshots for both cases.
Thank you for your assistance.
Very detailed information about the issue you experienced in your network. I appreciate it.
Would you please send an email to support.forum@tp-link.com with the following information?

1. The configuration file on the AX80.
2. Screenshot of the Ethernet backhaul negotiation speed on its web GUI when it's on 1G full duplex and dropped to 100Mbps full duplex.
Thank you very much.

@zexoni70 Well. I cannot agree more that it is hard to imagine that the AX73 web displays correctly while the AX80 does not.
I hope our engineers can review the firmware code and fix this 'mystery' in future updates.

Dear @Kevin_Z
Trust me, I also sent your engineers all the screenshots in correspondence where you can see that the problem only occurs when dark mode is set in Firefox or Microsoft Edge browsers - I tried it yesterday on three different desktop computers!
Today, as recommended @RoBPham, I changed the browser to Light mode and now the entire MENU is visible and all the letters in it are readable on the AX80...
Regards!

Dear @RobPham , or someone who has Firefox,
please try setting Dark mode in your browser and logging into your AX80 and let's see if the MENU will be unreadable?
Thanks.

Hi @zexoni70
I just tested Firefox with dark mode enabled and everything seems perfectly fine. But I am still on the non pre-released firmware AX80 (US) 1.1.3 Build 20250113 rel.53544(5553).
Unfortunately I am not able to test it out on the pre-released firmware since it's only for version EU/JP while mine is the US version, so I am still waiting for the US pre-release version to come out so I can give it a go and report my feedback.

Thanks for the reply and I'll wait for @RobPham to try it or for someone who has the AX80(EU) version to tell us their observations...

I have a question regarding EasyMesh on this pre-released firmware. Does your main router AX80 propagate its wireless settings such as channel width to your satellite devices?
My main router AX80 channel width is set to 80MHz but my satellites channel width is 160Mhz and no matter how long I wait, my satellite router won't follow my main routers setting of 80MHz.
My main router AX80 is connected to my satellite router AX73 via Ethernet Backhaul on EasyMesh.

Yes it does behave like that for me on Dark Mode for Safari, Edge, Firefox. Only for v1.3.1
