Tapo camera does not reconnect after router reboot
Tapo camera does not reconnect after router reboot
Hello,
I would like to report an issue with my Tapo camera that happens consistently after a router reboot.
Every time the router is restarted (for example during a firmware update), the camera loses the Wi-Fi connection and does not reconnect automatically once the network is available again. The camera remains offline indefinitely.
The only way to recover the connection is to unplug and reconnect the power cable of the camera. This behavior is fully reproducible and happens every time the router reboots.
Additional information:
-
The camera is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network
-
Signal strength is good
-
Other Wi-Fi devices reconnect normally after router reboot
-
The issue seems related to Wi-Fi reconnection handling after network loss
Please let me know if this is a known issue or if there is any firmware update planned to address it.
Thank you.

Ridiculous technical response from Tapo for triage.
We bout CW520W to monitor our holiday home and hard rebooting these is not an option after a weekly scheduled reboot and cameras failing to reconnect. This is not a network issues with environment or router proven if you manually reboot camera fine......schedule reboot fails to reconnect, not just one, not just two but three seperate cameras.
Tapo when will you be providing consumers with an adequate firmware update to correct this technical flaw?

I resolved the issue by creating a dedicated IoT network on my router, restricted to the 2,4 ghz band.
I connected the cameras exclusively to this network.
Since then, even after router restart, the camera reconnect automatically without any issues whatsoever.

Great / smart work around JimV60!
Shame Tapo hasn't shown the same initiative to fix the firmware issues with the broader C520WS. If you schedule a weekly reboot the cameras fails to reconnect however, if you random reboot....no issues.
I have 3x running remotely now offline and needing a hard reboot, been happening for 6 months and finding these reports online now explains buggy firmware.
Maybe time to look at alternatives and junk these

Hi,
@JimV60 Thank you for your suggestions.
@Aussie-Heath You can try the suggestion from @JimV60 in this post and check if it helps. If your router does not have an IoT network, you can enable a 2.4 GHz guest network for the camera to connect and test if it helps.
If the same phenomenon persists, please provide the information in this post, then follow the instructions below to collect the camera log. I'll then forward your case to the relevant team for further analysis and resolution.
How to get the log of the Tapo Camera
Best Regards
