Severe Quality Switching Issue After Latest Firmware Update (Tapo C220)
Hello Tapo Support Team,
I would like to report a serious issue that started only after the latest firmware update of my Tapo C220 camera. The problem is not related to Wi-Fi speed, but clearly caused by the new firmware’s streaming and auto-quality engine.
1. Auto quality no longer switches to 2K
In the previous firmware, the camera switched smoothly from 360p to 2K QHD in Auto mode.
After the new update, it gets stuck at 360p even when the network is strong.
2. This is NOT a speed issue — it is a firmware regression
I have tested on:
-
Home Wi-Fi
-
Office Wi-Fi
-
Jio mobile data
Interestingly:
-
Jio (slower network) switches to 2K Auto
-
Office Wi-Fi (higher speed) does NOT switch to 2K Auto
This clearly proves that the issue is not bandwidth-related, but due to the new firmware becoming overly strict with latency/jitter evaluation.
I also tested different Wi-Fi channels (6 and 11), but the issue remained the same.
3. Manual 2K mode shows frame drops and audio stutter
Before the update, manual 2K mode was perfectly smooth.
Now it shows:
-
Frame drops
-
Lag
-
Audio cutting/stuttering in live feed and calls
This clearly indicates that the new firmware’s adaptive bitrate system is unstable.
4. RSSI suddenly increased from 33 to 44 after update
Camera and router location are exactly the same.
This unusual change in RSSI value shows that the firmware has modified Wi-Fi sensitivity or reporting logic, which did not happen before.
The issue started after the firmware update.
5. Beta App is showing internal debug tags like “QRELEY-1”
I installed the Tapo Beta App (which your team previously shared for log testing).
Since the update, the live feed is now showing an internal diagnostic tag:
“QRELEY-1”
This is an internal stream status flag that should normally be hidden from users.
Its appearance confirms the following:
-
The new firmware is frequently failing to maintain 2K
-
The stream is falling back to relay/error mode
-
The auto-quality negotiation engine is unstable
This internal debug code itself proves the problem is firmware-side, not network-side.
“Diagnostics mode is enabled in the Beta App, so you can retrieve full logs for this issue.”
6. Everything worked perfectly before this update
Same router, same camera position, same speed, same network —
But only after the latest update the camera is struggling.
🟥 My Request
Since this issue is clearly caused by the latest firmware update:
👉 Please release a patch/fix for the auto-quality and streaming stability issue,
OR
👉 Provide me the option to roll back to the previous stable firmware, which worked perfectly.
Thank you.
I have attached video footage clearly showing all the issues mentioned above:
