Tapo C220 h/w v2 - Firmware upgrade
Today tapo app notified me to upgrade both cameras firmware. I did and now are not accessible outside of the local network. The app also continues to notify me to upgrade them and the upgrade is constantly failing. I tried to restart them etc. any help appreciated.

Hi @Solla-topee, the upgrade didn’t fail. The upgrade completed successfully, but after the update both cameras lost access to the internet that's why upgrade notification persisted and the LED remained orange all the time.
Through the advanced settings I switched to manual settings and pressed save. This solved the issue for a couple of hours — no more firmware update notifications and remote access worked without problems. But then the problem reappeared.
I went back to the network settings and changed the DNS from 8.8.8.8 to the internal router IP. Magic! Now both cameras have been working without any problems for 12 hours. I hope it continues like this.
Again this problem appeared after the upgrade to both cameras.

Hi,
For the reported phenomenon, you can refer to Q2 in the following instructions for troubleshooting.
Common questions about the TP-Link camera's firmware
If the same phenomenon persists, please confirm the following information.
1. What's the LED status on your camera, such as solid green, flashing red, etc.?
2. Please send me (@Solla-topee) your camera's MAC address via a private message. You can go to the camera's Device Settings > Device Info page to find its MAC address.
Best Regards

Hi,
Thank you for the update. If the camera is working now, you can keep monitoring it for some time.
If the upgrade prompt persists when the camera can't be controlled remotely, please send us a screenshot of the prompt in the Tapo app, and send me the camera's MAC address via a private message for further analysis.
Best Regards

@Solla-topee the update prompt was resolved once the cameras reached the internet. Both cameras have the latest update. The only problem which remains is that are requiring to enable manual network settings. At auto settings they cannot reach the internet anymore.

Hi,
Usually, the Tapo camera's remote management and DNS working mechanisms remain unchanged after the upgrade. You can change the router's DNS server back to 8.8.8.8 to see if the camera can still be remotely managed. If not, please provide the following information for further analysis:
1) The router's model number.
2) The DNS server used on the router when the camera can and can't be managed remotely.
Best Regards

@Tolis7 I haven't altered the router's DNS service. The router's dhcp server still assigns 8.8.8.8 to all other devices. I have altered the DNS address at the camerasnetwork settings from 8.8.8.8 to the router's internal ip. If you need a video for your debug analysis let me know it and I'll send it to you.
